- HL120
- HL200
Repairs this series usually needs
- Timer that counts down, beeps and resets on its own
- Mixer that stays dead when the bowl guard switch is not made
- Hum with no rotation under a stiff dough
- Gear noise as the planetary ages
The HL120 and HL200 are the small end of the Hobart Legacy+ family: a 12 quart and a 20 quart planetary mixer built to sit on a bench in a bakery, cafe or pizzeria. The model number is on the data plate, and the two numbers tell you the bowl size, so read it before you call.
Our first look on one of these is the bowl guard switch, because a switch that does not make keeps the mixer from starting at all. Then we check the SmartTimer and the way the beater and bowl seat. Humid weather works on switches and plug contacts over the years, and flour dust finds its way into everything.
Bakeries that kept an HL120 for ten years or more still ask us about it, and we take those calls seriously. You get a written price before we start, and if a repair would cost more than the mixer is worth, we say so.

The HL120 is the 12 quart size and the HL200 is the 20 quart size. Both are countertop planetary mixers in the Legacy+ line, and the number is printed on the data plate of the machine.
Why will my bench mixer not start at all?
The bowl guard switch is the first thing we test. If the guard does not make the switch, the mixer will not start, and dirt or wear in the switch is a common reason for that.
How long should a countertop Hobart mixer last?
With regular cleaning and a guard switch that is kept clear of dough, a bench mixer can last many years. Age mostly shows up in the switch, the gears and the grease, and we can tell you which part is wearing.
