What does Eversys error code W-103 mean?

The steam wand on a Cameo has a temperature sensor that tells the control how hot the milk is as it steams. The control uses that reading to stop steaming at the right temperature. If the sensor gives no reading, or one that does not make sense, the control cannot do automatic steaming correctly and shows W-103. Staff may see steamed milk drinks limited or inconsistent, and may notice milk steamed to the wrong temperature, either too hot or barely warm. The owner's guide points to the sensor and its cable, so those come first. The wand tip lives in a harsh place: it is wiped, hit by cups, heated and cooled all day, so the sensor and its cable take more wear than most. A buildup of milk film near the wand can also disturb the reading. Operators can let the wand cool, wipe it with a clean damp cloth, and check that nothing is stuck at the tip. A restart can clear a glitch. If W-103 returns, steaming milk without a reliable temperature is a quality and a safety concern, so stop steaming until it is tested. The display text is W-103.

Safe checks before calling for service

✓ What an operator can do
  1. Let the steam wand cool and wipe it with a clean damp cloth.
  2. Check that nothing is stuck around the wand tip.
  3. Use the main switch for one restart, waiting ten seconds before you turn it back on.
  4. If W-103 returns, stop steaming milk and call us.

How a technician diagnoses error code W-103

  1. Check the wand tip and cable for damage and buildup.
  2. Read the temperature the control reports against a thermometer in milk.
  3. Inspect the cable and connector.
  4. Measure the sensor resistance against its chart.
  5. Check the board input.
  6. Replace the sensor or cable only after it fails the test.
! Leave this to a technician
  • The wand cable runs from a hot area into the cabinet near mains-powered parts.
  • Checking the sensor against a reference thermometer needs a meter and the panels off.
  • Steaming milk without a reliable reading is a quality and food-safety concern.
