Beverage-Air Refrigerator Error Code Con: Condenser Alarm
Con on a Beverage-Air cabinet with a Danfoss controller is the condenser alarm, which means the condenser temperature is too high or too low. Make sure there is clearance around the cabinet, clean dust and lint from the condenser area if it is easy to reach, and check the fan is turning if you can see it.
Medium: the cabinet keeps running, but an overheated condenser strains the compressor and cooling.

What does Beverage-Air error code Con mean?
The Danfoss controller watches the condenser temperature with its own sensor, because the condenser is where the system gets rid of heat. When that temperature goes outside the allowed range, the controller shows Con. A hot condenser usually means dust or lint is blocking airflow, a fan has stopped, or the cabinet sits too close to a wall or another unit. A cold condenser can come from a sensor that reads wrong or from very cold surroundings. The manual lists a dirty condenser coil, a condenser fan not running, poor ventilation around the cabinet, and a condenser sensor reading incorrectly. The first three lead to real heat and strain on the compressor, and the last can produce an alarm with nothing wrong in the cooling. Take a reading with a thermometer to see whether the condenser trouble is hurting the box. If the box is holding temperature, the cabinet has some time. If it is warming, the condenser is already costing capacity.
Affected models and control systems
This applies to Beverage-Air cabinets with a Danfoss controller, such as the UCF27HC freezer and matching refrigerators, prep tables and bar coolers. Cabinets with an Eliwell controller use different codes.
Code numbers and their meaning can change between control generations. We match the full model and control before acting on a code.
What you may notice
- Con shows on the controller display
- The condenser area feels very hot or the fan is not turning
- The box temperature creeps up while Con is on
- The compressor runs hot and almost continuously
Possible causes
Listed in Beverage-Air's documentation
- Dirty condenser coil
- Condenser fan not running
- Poor ventilation around the cabinet
- Condenser sensor reading incorrectly
Other likely causes — what usually sits behind error code Con on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.
- A condenser coil coated with flour or grease dust in a bakery or kitchen, slowing airflow
- A cabinet pushed flush against a wall after a remodel so there is no air gap
- A condenser fan with a seized bearing after years of running in a warm room
Safe checks before calling for service
- Make sure there is clearance around the cabinet for air to move.
- Clean dust and lint from the condenser area if it is easy to reach.
- Check that the fan is turning if you can see it.
- Take a reading with a thermometer to see if the condenser trouble is hurting the box.
- If Con stays on, note the box temperature and call us.
How a technician diagnoses error code Con
- Read the code and note whether the condenser reading is high or low.
- Inspect the condenser coil and clean it properly.
- Check the fan motor and blade.
- Check ventilation and ambient temperature around the cabinet.
- Compare the condenser sensor with a reference thermometer.
- Replace the fan or sensor as the test shows.
- Cleaning a condenser coil properly needs panels removed and the unit powered down.
- A fan or sensor test needs a meter.
- A hot condenser strains the compressor, which is the costliest part of the cabinet.

Does Con mean the compressor is failing?
No. It reports the condenser temperature, though a hot condenser can strain the compressor.
Can a cold room set off Con?
Yes, a condenser that is too cold also triggers it.
Will cleaning fix it?
Often, if dust was the cause.
