Beverage-Air Refrigerator Error Code AH1: High Temperature Alarm
AH1 on a Beverage-Air cabinet with an Eliwell controller is the Pb1 probe high temperature alarm, which means the cabinet is too warm. The cabinet keeps running. Confirm doors or drawers are closed all the way, check the real temperature with a thermometer in a pan of water, and let it recover after a restock.
Medium: the cabinet is above its limit and food can warm, but the unit is still running.

What does Beverage-Air error code AH1 mean?
The Eliwell controller reads the cabinet air through its Pb1 probe and compares it with a high limit. When the reading stays above that limit for its set delay, AH1 is shown. The cabinet keeps running, so the alarm is a warning rather than a shutdown, and it asks you to check the doors, the load and the cooling. A warm cabinet can put food and drinks at risk, particularly on a hot day. The manual lists a door or drawer left open, a dirty condenser or stopped fan that lets the probe read warm, an iced evaporator coil that blocks cold air from circulating, and a big restock of warm product that overloads the cabinet. Two of those are habits and loading, and two are cooling problems. A pan of water with a thermometer in it shows how the cabinet is really doing, because the display shows the air and the air changes quickly when a door opens. The alarm usually clears once the cabinet pulls down.
Affected models and control systems
This applies to Beverage-Air cabinets with an Eliwell controller, such as the DW49HC deep well cooler and the WTR48AHC worktop. Cabinets with a Danfoss controller use different codes.
Code numbers and their meaning can change between control generations. We match the full model and control before acting on a code.
What you may notice
- AH1 shows while the cabinet keeps running
- Drinks and food feel warmer than normal
- The compressor runs for long periods
- The alarm appears after a delivery is loaded
Possible causes
Listed in Beverage-Air's documentation
- A door or drawer left open on the Eliwell-controlled Beverage-Air cabinet
- A dirty condenser or stopped fan that lets the Pb1 probe read warm
- An iced evaporator coil blocking cold air from circulating
- A big restock of warm product that overloads the cabinet
Other likely causes — what usually sits behind error code AH1 on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.
- A deep well lid left slightly raised by a bag or tray, letting warm air in
- A condenser matted with grease and dust in a kitchen, so the cabinet cannot shed heat
- An evaporator coil frosted over after repeated door openings in a humid room
Safe checks before calling for service
- Confirm doors or drawers are closed all the way.
- Put a pan of water with a thermometer in it to see how the cabinet is really doing.
- Clear lint and dust from the condenser area if it is easy to reach.
- Let the cabinet recover after a restock.
- If AH1 returns, note the time and the thermometer reading, and call us.
How a technician diagnoses error code AH1
- Read the code and compare the display with a reference thermometer.
- Check the condenser, the fan and the airflow around the cabinet.
- Look for frost on the evaporator and check the defrost.
- Check the Pb1 probe against the reference.
- Check the alarm limit and delay settings.
- Fix the measured cause and confirm the cabinet pulls down.
- Food safety is at stake if the cabinet stays warm, so the cause must be measured.
- Condenser, fan and defrost work needs tools and a trained technician.
- A probe that reads high has to be separated from a truly warm cabinet.
How error code AH1 differs from similar codes
AL1 is the low temperature alarm on the same Eliwell controller.

Related Beverage-Air reach-in refrigerator error codes
Does AH1 mean the cabinet has failed?
Not necessarily. A restock or an open door often triggers it.
Will AH1 clear on its own?
Yes, once the cabinet pulls down, but a repeat points to cooling.
Is the food safe?
Check it with a thermometer and move it if the cabinet stays warm.
