IPSO Washer-Extractor Error Code E FL: Fill Error
E FL on an IPSO CHM495R washer-extractor means the water never reached the programmed level within 10 minutes of a fill or agitate step, so the cycle ended. Turn the machine off to clear it, make sure both supply valves are fully open, and look for a kinked hose.
Medium: the cycle ends unfinished, but the cause is often a simple supply restriction.
What does IPSO error code E FL mean?
During a fill or agitate step, the control waits for the water level to climb to the programmed point, and it allows 10 minutes for that. When the time runs out with the level still short, the cycle ends and the display shows E FL. Staff come back to a drum with too little water and a wash that never finished. The code does not say why the water was slow; it only says the level was not reached. Closed supply valves are the simplest explanation, followed by clogged inlet screens that slow the flow, weak pressure in the building, or a hose with a kink. A fill valve that stays shut will give the same result, and so will a drain valve that leaks while the drum is trying to fill. Hard water scale in the inlet screens is common in the metros we serve. The manual clears the message by turning the machine off, and the cause has to be found before the next load.
Affected models and control systems
This applies to IPSO washer-extractors in the CHM495R family, 20 to 100 lb, including models such as the ICN020GNF, with the front-end control in that programming manual.
Code numbers and their meaning can change between control generations. We match the full model and control before acting on a code.
What you may notice
- The drum holds too little water and the cycle ends with E FL
- The fill sounds weak or trickles
- The wash stops before agitation finishes
Possible causes
Listed in IPSO's documentation
- Hot or cold supply valve or hose closed or restricted
- Inlet screens clogged with scale, slowing the water
- Fill valve that does not open
- Drain valve that leaks during the fill step
Other likely causes — what usually sits behind error code E FL on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.
- A supply valve that a cleaner partly closed and left that way
- Scale flaking from old pipes and packing the screen behind the fill valve
Safe checks before calling for service
- Turn the machine off, which is how the manual clears the message.
- Make sure both supply valves are fully open.
- Look along the hoses for a kink, without moving the washer-extractor.
- Let us schedule service if it fills slowly or not at all, and say whether hot, cold or both seem weak.
How a technician diagnoses error code E FL
- Read the code and note which fill step stopped.
- Check supply valve position and pressure at the machine.
- With the supply closed and power locked off, inspect and clean the inlet screens.
- Command each fill valve and confirm it opens and passes water.
- Check the drain valve for leakage during fill, and test the level sensing before replacing a valve.
- Cleaning inlet screens means shutting the supply and disconnecting hoses under pressure.
- Testing the fill valves requires commanding them on a machine fed by live 208 to 240 V.
- A leaking drain valve can look like a weak fill, and separating the two takes watching the level during the step.
How error code E FL differs from similar codes
E FL is water that never arrives. E LF is water that arrives when it should not.

Related IPSO washer error codes
Can I run another load right after E FL?
Only after the supply valves and hoses are checked. The same cause will stop the next cycle.
Will turning it off fix the fill?
It clears the message but not the cause.
Why only partly filled?
The level was not reached in 10 minutes, so the control gave up.
