Dexter Commercial Washer Error Code F8: Slow Drain Error

F8 (SLOW DRAIN ERROR) means the empty water level was not reached within seven minutes, but the cycle continues. Check the floor drain for backup, never force the door with water inside, and let the cycle finish. If F8 returns, call us.

What does Dexter error code F8 mean?

After the wash, a Dexter VFD washer pumps or lets the water leave through a drain valve and waits for its pressure switch to report an empty tub. The controller times it, and if seven minutes pass without the empty level, it records F8 (SLOW DRAIN ERROR). The cycle continues, but the controller flags the slow drain. The practical effect is wet laundry: standing water lingers in the tub, the spin starts late or short, and attendants notice a cycle that ran long. The maker's causes cover the whole drain path. A drain valve that stays partly closed holds the water back at the machine. A pressure switch tube that is blocked or kinked makes the controller read the wrong level even when the tub is empty. A damaged harness at the pressure switch has the same effect. Past the washer, a partly blocked floor drain or drain line can slow things down even though the washer is working properly, and in a laundry with several machines draining at once, that is a common reason one drain line cannot keep up.

Affected models and control systems

Dexter C-Series and T-series coin washers with a VFD, T-300 to T-1450, such as the T-350 Express.

Code numbers and their meaning can change between control generations. We match the full model and control before acting on a code.

What you may notice

  • F8 (SLOW DRAIN ERROR) appears after a long cycle
  • Water is still in the drum when the cycle ends
  • Laundry comes out soaked
  • The floor drain gurgles or backs up when the washer empties

Possible causes

Listed in Dexter's documentation

  • Drain valve stuck partly closed
  • Blocked or kinked pressure switch tube
  • Damaged wire harness at the pressure switch
  • Floor drain or drain line partly blocked

Other likely causes — what usually sits behind error code F8 on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.

  • Lint, buttons or coins in the drain valve body that keep it from opening fully
  • Soap residue hardening in the pressure switch tube so it reports the level late

Safe checks before calling for service

✓ What an operator can do
  1. Look at the floor drain for backup and clear what you can reach from outside the washer.
  2. Never force the door while water is inside.
  3. Let the cycle finish, since it continues despite the warning.
  4. If F8 returns, call us; the maker says to check the drain valve, the pressure switch tube and the harness.
  5. Note whether other washers drain slowly into the same line.

How a technician diagnoses error code F8

  1. Confirm F8 and run a test drain while timing it.
  2. Check the floor drain and the drain line for restriction and test whether neighbors drain normally.
  3. Inspect the drain valve for debris and confirm it opens fully when commanded.
  4. Inspect the pressure switch tube for kinks, residue and blockage.
  5. Check the harness at the pressure switch for damage.
  6. Clear or replace the part found and confirm the tub empties well inside seven minutes.
! Leave this to a technician
  • Draining and drain valve work happens beside a tub that may still hold water.
  • A blocked pressure switch tube and a slow drain valve give the same message, so each needs its own test.
  • A floor drain line problem is a plumbing job beyond the washer.
