Cissell OPL Dryer Error Code E AF2: Airflow Switch Will Not Close
E AF2 means the airflow switch did not close after the cycle started, so the control cannot confirm the dryer is exhausting air and stops. The drum may spin without heat. Clean the lint screen, check the lint door and the outside vent, then power on again.
Medium: the dryer holds the heat off until it sees airflow, so drying stops but nothing is damaged.
What does Cissell error code E AF2 mean?
On Cissell OPL dryers such as the CT025L, once the blower is on the control waits a short time for the airflow switch to close. The moving air does this by pushing a paddle. If the switch is still open at the end of that wait, the control assumes that no air is moving, shuts off the heat and displays E AF2. This is a protection against heating a drum with no exhaust. Operators typically see a drum that spins but stays cool. The cause is often restriction: a lint screen clogged solid, a duct with a crushed bend or an outdoor hood that is stuck. Leaks at the blower or drum seal can reduce flow at the switch. If the air is moving well and E AF2 still shows, the paddle may be sticking open, or a wire or input on the control is not passing the signal.
Affected models and control systems
This page covers the Cissell OPL electronic control tumble dryers, 25 to 35 lb C-prefix models such as the CT025L.
Code numbers and their meaning can change between control generations. We match the full model and control before acting on a code.
What you may notice
- E AF2 appears soon after the cycle starts
- Drum spins but heating does not start
- Little air comes from the outdoor vent
Possible causes
Listed in Cissell's documentation
- A clogged lint screen or duct that starves the switch of air
- A leaking blower or drum seal
- An airflow switch that does not move, or damaged wiring
- A failed control input for the switch
Other likely causes — what usually sits behind error code E AF2 on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.
- A lint door gasket that has torn so the blower pulls air from the room, not through the drum
- A bird or nest in the outside hood that restricts the flow
- A switch wire that has pulled out of its terminal and lets the circuit stay open
Safe checks before calling for service
- Switch the dryer off and let it stand a few minutes.
- Empty the lint screen and check that the lint door closes tightly.
- Check outside that the dryer vent opening is not covered by lint or debris.
- Turn power on, or press Back as the owner's manual allows, and call us if E AF2 repeats.
How a technician diagnoses error code E AF2
- Read the code and note how soon after start it appears.
- Measure airflow at the vent and look for a blocked duct section.
- Inspect the lint door, blower housing and drum seal for leaks.
- Test the switch for closure while the blower runs and check its wiring.
- Replace the switch or the control only after the airflow is proven good.
- Duct and blower leaks cannot be fully checked from the front of the dryer.
- The switch wiring is behind panels carrying line voltage.
- The protection exists to keep the cabinet from overheating, so it must never be bypassed.
How error code E AF2 differs from similar codes
E AF1 is a switch that will not release, and E AF is a switch that bounces. On the 120 and 170 lb dryers the matching code is AF-2.

Related Cissell dryer error codes
Why does the drum spin but not heat?
The control only allows heat after it sees the airflow switch close.
Is E AF2 only a lint problem?
Lint is the most common cause, but the duct, a worn seal or the switch itself can cause it.
Can I press Back and try again?
Yes. If E AF2 returns right away, the restriction is still there.
