Cissell OPL Dryer Error Code E HEAt: Heat Not Reached
E HEAt means the dryer did not reach its expected temperature. On gas models the control tried to light the burner, did not sense a flame after its programmed retries and stopped, so the drum tumbles but stays cold. Check that the gas shut-off valve is open, and call us if the code returns after one restart.
High: the dryer will not heat, so the load will not dry until the cause is fixed.
What does Cissell error code E HEAt mean?
The OPL control expects the drum temperature to rise within a set time after heat is called for. On a gas Cissell, such as the CT025L or CT030N, that means the control opens the gas valve, the igniter lights the burner, and a sensor proves flame. If flame is not proven after the programmed retries, the control gives up and shows E HEAt, and the heat stays off. On an electric model, the same message means the heating circuit did not warm the drum as expected. Staff see a drum that tumbles but stays cold, and laundry that is wet at the end of the cycle. The first things to check are outside the machine: a closed gas shut-off valve, an empty gas line or a tripped breaker. If the gas is on and the message comes back, the igniter, ignition cable, control module, flame sensor, gas valve or heating circuit has to be tested. If you ever smell gas, leave the room and call the gas utility from outdoors.
Affected models and control systems
This page covers the Cissell OPL electronic control gas and electric tumble dryers, 25 to 35 lb C-prefix models such as the CT025L and CT030N.
Code numbers and their meaning can change between control generations. We match the full model and control before acting on a code.
What you may notice
- E HEAt appears and the dryer stops
- Drum turns but the air stays cold
- Laundry is wet at the end of the cycle
Possible causes
Listed in Cissell's documentation
- Gas supply off, or the shut-off valve closed
- A failed igniter, ignition cable or control module
- A flame sensor or gas valve that does not work
- A failed heating circuit on electric models
Other likely causes — what usually sits behind error code E HEAt on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.
- A gas supply that was shut off during building work or a meter change and never reopened
- An igniter that glows weakly but lights unreliably as it ages
- A flame sensor coated with residue, so flame is present but not proven
Safe checks before calling for service
- Power the dryer down at the disconnect and give the drum time to cool.
- Make sure the gas shut-off valve to the dryer is open, as the maker advises.
- At any gas odor, get out of the room and phone the gas utility from outdoors.
- Clean the lint screen, restore power once, and call us if E HEAt returns. Tell us whether the burner ever lit.
How a technician diagnoses error code E HEAt
- Read the code and check gas supply and inlet pressure with the dryer asking for heat.
- Watch the ignition sequence for igniter glow, gas valve opening and flame proof.
- Test the igniter, flame sensor and gas valve coil with a meter.
- On electric models, check the heating elements, contactors and limit devices.
- Replace the part that fails its test, then run the dryer to confirm heating.
- Gas supply, igniter and gas valve work requires a licensed gas technician.
- Igniters, valves and heater circuits are behind panels and carry line voltage.
- Repeated lighting attempts without flame should not be forced by an operator.
How error code E HEAt differs from similar codes
E iCn is the ignition module lockout on gas dryers. E HEAt is the broader message that heat was not reached, and covers electric models too.

Related Cissell dryer error codes
Is E HEAt the same as E iCn?
Not quite. E iCn is the ignition module in lockout. E HEAt is the dryer reporting that it did not reach temperature.
Can I keep trying to restart?
One restart is fine. Repeated tries do not help and are not advised if the burner does not light.
What should I check first?
That the gas valve to the dryer is open and the breaker has not tripped.
