Cissell OPL Dryer Error Code E SL: Stove Limit 1 Tripped
E SL means the first stove limit has tripped, a heat safety that cuts the heating when the burner area gets too hot. Common roots are a blocked vent, a full lint screen or lint caked on the thermostat. Let the dryer cool, clean the lint screen and check the outside vent opening.
High: heating is cut by a heat safety, and repeated trips mean the dryer is running hotter than it should.
What does Cissell error code E SL mean?
The stove is the hot area around the burner of a Cissell OPL dryer such as the CT025L or CT030N. A stove limit is a thermostat that watches that area and opens its circuit if the temperature goes above a set point. The control notices the loss of the circuit, shuts off heating and shows E SL. A restricted exhaust is the typical cause, because air that cannot leave takes heat with it and leaves it around the burner. A full lint screen, a crushed section of duct, or lint caked on the thermostat can do the same. The limit itself can also fail or drift and open too early, and a burner and airflow balance that overheats the stove area has the same effect. Because it is a safety device, it should never be bypassed. A single trip after a very full lint screen is plausible. If E SL returns, the airflow or the limit must be tested before the dryer is used.
Affected models and control systems
This page covers the Cissell OPL electronic control tumble dryers, 25 to 35 lb C-prefix models, including the CT025L and CT030N.
Code numbers and their meaning can change between control generations. We match the full model and control before acting on a code.
What you may notice
- E SL appears and heating stops
- Cycle ends early with damp clothes
- Dryer will not heat again until it cools
Possible causes
Listed in Cissell's documentation
- Blocked or crushed exhaust venting
- A full lint screen or lint around the thermostat
- A failed stove limit thermostat
- A burner and airflow balance that overheats the stove area
Other likely causes — what usually sits behind error code E SL on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.
- A vent run that was shortened or bent during a recent move of the dryer, adding restriction
- A burner that runs rich or too hot because of gas pressure above its setting
- A stove limit that opens at a lower temperature than it should after years of heat cycling
Safe checks before calling for service
- Switch the dryer off and let it cool fully.
- Empty the lint screen and wipe lint from the lint door area.
- Check the outside vent opening for lint or blockage, and leave duct work to us.
- Restore power and run one cycle, then call us if E SL appears again.
How a technician diagnoses error code E SL
- Read the code and ask about lint, duct and any recent changes to the dryer position.
- Check the exhaust airflow at the outlet.
- Inspect the stove area and thermostat for lint and heat marks.
- Measure the limit's opening temperature and gas pressure at the burner.
- Replace the limit, or correct the airflow, only after the cause has been found.
- A tripped heat safety shows that something is running hot, and the dryer should not be forced to run until it is found.
- The stove limit and burner sit inside the cabinet, near gas and line-voltage parts.
- Gas pressure tests need a gauge and gas training.
How error code E SL differs from similar codes
E SL2 is a second stove limit that guards the same area, with a separate trip. E CAb guards the cabinet.

Related Cissell dryer error codes
Can I keep drying after E SL clears?
Only after cleaning the lint and vent. If it trips again, the dryer should be checked before more use.
Is E SL the same as E SL2?
No. They are two separate limits. Either one means heat in the stove area went too high.
Does the limit reset itself?
It can close again when it cools, but the cause that overheated it is still there.
