Cissell OPL Dryer Error Code E FCOn: Fan Motor Contactor
E FCOn points to the fan motor contactor circuit. The control watches the relay that switches the exhaust fan motor on, and it stops the dryer when the output or wiring does not behave as expected. Switch the dryer off at the disconnect, look for a jammed lint screen or a tripped breaker, and do not open the cabinet.
Medium: the dryer stops until the fan circuit is repaired.
What does Cissell error code E FCOn mean?
The exhaust fan on a Cissell OPL dryer such as the CU030E is switched by a contactor, a relay that closes when the control asks for the fan to run. The control sends the command and watches the circuit for the signal that tells it the contactor responded. If the signal is absent, wrong or appears when no command was sent, the control stops the dryer and shows E FCOn. In practice, the drum may not start, or the fan may not run when heat is called for. Because heating without a running fan is unsafe, the control does not guess. The message does not tell whether the problem is the wiring to the contactor, the control output that drives it, the contactor's contacts and coil, or the connection to the fan motor. A tripped breaker or a jammed fan can also show up as a contactor problem, so the simple outside checks matter first. The meter tests behind the panels are for a technician.
Affected models and control systems
This page covers the Cissell OPL electronic control tumble dryers, 25 to 35 lb C-prefix models such as the CU030E. Other controls do not use this code.
Code numbers and their meaning can change between control generations. We match the full model and control before acting on a code.
What you may notice
- E FCOn appears and the dryer stops
- The drum does not start, or the fan is silent when heat should be on
- A buzzing or chattering from inside the cabinet
Possible causes
Listed in Cissell's documentation
- Damaged fan motor contactor wiring
- A control output signal to the contactor that is missing or wrong
- Worn contactor contacts or a failed coil
- A poor fan motor connection
Other likely causes — what usually sits behind error code E FCOn on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.
- Contactor contacts that are burned or pitted from years of cycling and no longer pass current
- A coil that has weakened and chatters instead of pulling in firmly
- A fan motor connector that has loosened from vibration, so the circuit opens as the fan starts
Safe checks before calling for service
- Switch the dryer off at the disconnect.
- Look for a lint screen jam or a tripped breaker for the dryer.
- Do not open the cabinet to touch the contactor or its wiring.
- Restore power once and call us if E FCOn comes back. Note whether the fan ran at all.
How a technician diagnoses error code E FCOn
- Read the code and confirm whether the fan starts on a call for heat.
- Check supply voltage to the contactor and the dryer's breaker.
- Measure the contactor coil and contact condition with a meter.
- Check the control output to the coil and the wiring to the fan motor.
- Replace the contactor, wiring or control only after the test points to it.
- Contactor and fan motor circuits carry line voltage, which is a shock hazard behind the panel.
- The contactor sits inside the cabinet and needs a meter to test its coil and contacts.
- A fan that does not run properly can let heat build up in the dryer.

Related Cissell dryer error codes
Can I keep using the dryer with E FCOn on?
No. The control stopped the dryer because it cannot confirm the exhaust fan is under control.
Is E FCOn the same as E FnCS?
No. E FCOn is about the relay that switches the fan. E FnCS is about the fan motor's centrifugal switch.
Could a breaker cause E FCOn?
It can, so check that the breaker has not tripped. If it has not, call us.
