Cissell OPL Dryer Error Code EI02: Infrared Device Time-Out
EI02 means an infrared device timed out: the dryer sent or waited for a reply over its infrared link and the other device never answered in time. The heat and drum are not the problem. Switch the dryer off at the disconnect, wait a minute, switch it back on, and note which device was in use.
Low: an infrared message only; drying is not affected.
What does Cissell error code EI02 mean?
An infrared exchange with a Cissell OPL dryer, such as the CT030N, is a conversation. The control sends a request or waits for one, and then it expects an answer within a short, set time. If the other device does not reply in time, the control stops waiting, records EI02 and moves on. The message is about the silence on the other end. The device could be out of range or not lined up with the dryer's infrared window, its power could be low, or the receiver on the control could not hear it. Because the exchange never completed, a setting or reading you were trying to send may not have been accepted. The dryer's own heat and drum functions are separate from this link and keep working. That is why the code has a low priority, and why the first move is simply to repeat the exchange from the right distance after a power reset.
Affected models and control systems
This page covers the Cissell OPL electronic control tumble dryers, 25 to 35 lb C-prefix models such as the CT030N. Other Cissell controls do not use this code.
Code numbers and their meaning can change between control generations. We match the full model and control before acting on a code.
What you may notice
- EI02 appears after trying to use a device with the dryer
- The exchange does not finish
- Heat and drum work normally
Possible causes
Listed in Cissell's documentation
- An outside device that does not answer over the infrared link
- A device out of range or misaligned with the dryer
- A failing infrared receiver on the control
- Poor power or wiring to the control
Other likely causes — what usually sits behind error code EI02 on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.
- A device held a long way from the dryer panel while the beam needed to be close
- A device that switched itself off mid-exchange because of a low battery
- A receiver window on the dryer panel dulled by cleaner residue
Safe checks before calling for service
- Switch the dryer off at the disconnect, wait a minute and switch it back on.
- Note which device or tool was in use with the dryer when EI02 appeared.
- Clean the lint screen so the dryer is ready for normal use.
- If EI02 shows again, leave it and call us. Tell us how far away the device was.
How a technician diagnoses error code EI02
- Read the code and ask which device was used and how it was held.
- Check the infrared window for damage or residue.
- Repeat the exchange at close range with fresh batteries or a known good device.
- Check supply and wiring to the control.
- Replace the control only after the receiver has failed with a known good device.
- The dryer cannot show which end failed to answer, so a technician needs a second device to compare.
- The infrared receiver is on the control board behind the panel.
- Because drying is not affected, the visit can be planned.
How error code EI02 differs from similar codes
EI01 is a transmission that did not go through. EI0C is a time-out that was exceeded. EI02 is the other device not answering.

Does EI02 mean the dryer is broken?
Not necessarily. It says the other device did not answer in time.
Should I move the device closer?
Yes. Try holding it close and lined up with the dryer's infrared window after a power reset.
Can I keep using the dryer?
Yes. Drying itself is not affected.
