Cissell OPL Dryer Error Code EI03: Wrong Machine Type Command

EI03 means the dryer received an infrared command meant for a different type of machine, and it refused the command rather than act on it. The dryer is not damaged. Switch it off at the disconnect, wait a minute, switch it back on, and note which device or tool was in use.

Medium · inspection needed

Low: the command was refused safely; drying is not affected.

What does Cissell error code EI03 mean?

Each machine type in the Cissell range has its own set of commands and values. When a device sends a command over infrared to an OPL dryer such as the CU030E, the message says what kind of machine it is meant for. The control compares that with its own setup. If the two do not match, for example because the device was set up for a different model or a washer, the control declines the command and shows EI03. It is a safeguard, so a setting meant for one kind of machine cannot be written into another. Staff typically see EI03 after trying to send settings or data to the dryer from a device that is configured for another machine type. The drying hardware is not involved and nothing is damaged. The solution is on the setup side: the device's settings, which model type the dryer is set up as, the DIP switch positions on the control, or the quality of the link.

Affected models and control systems

This page covers the Cissell OPL electronic control tumble dryers, 25 to 35 lb C-prefix models such as the CU030E. Other Cissell controls do not use this code.

Code numbers and their meaning can change between control generations. We match the full model and control before acting on a code.

What you may notice

  • EI03 appears after a command is sent to the dryer
  • The settings or data you sent are not accepted
  • The dryer dries as normal

Possible causes

Listed in Cissell's documentation

  • Wrong machine-type settings in the device sending the command
  • The dryer set up as a different model type
  • Wrong control setup or DIP switch positions
  • A poor infrared link

Other likely causes — what usually sits behind error code EI03 on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.

  • A programming device that still holds the profile of a different dryer or a washer from a previous job
  • A control that was swapped during a repair and is set up for another size
  • A DIP switch that was moved during earlier work and now reports a different type

Safe checks before calling for service

✓ What an operator can do
  1. Switch the dryer off at the disconnect, wait a minute and switch it back on.
  2. Note which device or tool was in use with the dryer when EI03 appeared.
  3. Clean the lint screen so the dryer is ready for normal use.
  4. If EI03 shows again, leave it and call us. Tell us what machine the device was last used on.

How a technician diagnoses error code EI03

  1. Read the code and ask what device was used and what it was set to.
  2. Check the device's machine type setting.
  3. Check the dryer's model setup and DIP switch positions against the data plate.
  4. Try the exchange again with the device set to the right type.
  5. Correct the setup, or replace the control, only after the match is confirmed.
! Leave this to a technician
  • The code can come from the device or from the dryer's setup, and both need checking.
  • DIP switches are on the control board behind the panel.
  • A wrong setup can change how the dryer runs, so the settings must match the data plate.

How error code EI03 differs from similar codes

EI03 is about the machine type. EI05 is about the value being out of range, and EI0E is about a message that cannot be decoded.
