Speed Queen Washer Error Code EC05: Invalid Reader Data
EC05 on card-operated Quantum frontload and topload washers means the control refused invalid or out-of-range data from the card reader. A price or time that did not fit its limits is the usual example. Try the card again, try a second card, think about whether prices or cycle times were changed lately and call us.
Medium: paid cycles cannot start until the rejected value is corrected.

What does Speed Queen error code EC05 mean?
The control checks every value the reader sends against its own limits, for example a price or a cycle time. If a value falls outside what the control accepts, it refuses it and shows EC05. In a laundromat that shows up as a customer who cannot start a paid cycle while the display holds the code and the rest of the washer stays idle. The manual lists the price and cycle values loaded into the control, the reader settings, the card data and the reader cable. A price entered during programming that is too high or low for the control, or a card carrying data the machine cannot interpret, can both trigger it. Damaged cabling can also garble the data on its way. A second card helps separate card data from machine settings, and recalling whether anyone changed prices or cycle times lately is often the quickest route to the cause. The service technician then compares the loaded values with the washer's allowed ranges.

- Read the display and note the model and software.
- Review the prices and cycle values loaded into the control against allowed ranges.
- Check the reader settings.
- Test with several cards and inspect the reader cable.
- Correct the values or replace the cable or reader, then run a paid cycle.
- Price and cycle values live in the service programming, and wrong changes affect revenue and audit figures.
- Checking cable and reader means opening the console near line-voltage circuits.
How error code EC05 differs from similar codes
EC05 is about a value outside the control's limits. EC03 means a command that does not fit the washer, and EC02 means a slow reply.

Did someone change my prices?
Possibly. Changed prices or cycle times are a common reason a value falls out of range.
Is it the customer's card?
It can be. Trying a second card shows whether the card data is the cause.
Can the washer wash anyway?
The hardware is fine, but the washer will not start a paid cycle while the data is rejected.
