IPSO Washer-Extractor Error Code Err: Coin Input Error
Err on an IPSO CHM495R washer-extractor with a coin input is a coin error: the control read an invalid coin pulse, or the coin sensor is inoperative. The machine will not take the payment, so no cycle starts. Look into the slot for a stuck coin without using a tool, then try one clean coin.
Medium: payment is blocked, though the washer itself is sound.

What does IPSO error code Err mean?
This code only applies to machines wired with a coin input, such as one in an on-premise or vended laundry room of an institution. Industrial laundries without a coin drop never see it. Each coin should send the control a pulse of the right shape. If the control sees a pulse it cannot accept, or the sensor does not respond at all, the control refuses the payment and shows Err, so no cycle starts. The trouble is in the payment path and not in the wash. A bent coin, debris in the slide, a dirty sensor or damaged wiring can be behind it. A vended room draws constant use, so slides collect lint and sticky residue that a plant machine never sees. If Err appears on a machine that has no coin drop at all, the page does not match and a technician should check the model.
Affected models and control systems
CHM495R washer-extractors, 20 to 100 lb, fitted with a coin input. Other controller generations use different codes.
Code numbers and their meaning can change between control generations. We match the full model and control before acting on a code.
What you may notice
- Err on the display after a coin goes in
- Coins rejected or returned
- Cycle will not start after payment
- No reaction from the coin drop
Possible causes
Listed in IPSO's documentation
- A bent coin or debris lodged in the slide
- Dirt on the coin sensor
- The wire run between the coin drop and the control
- The control's coin input
Other likely causes — what usually sits behind error code Err on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.
- Sticky residue in the slide that slows coins
- A sensor lens covered in lint
- A coin drop plug loosened by door slams
- A coin input on the control that no longer registers pulses
Safe checks before calling for service
- Look into the coin slot for a stuck coin, without using a tool.
- Insert one clean coin and watch the display.
- Mark the machine out of order if it keeps refusing.
- Contact us to check the coin drop and the wiring behind it.
How a technician diagnoses error code Err
- Confirm that the machine is configured with a coin input.
- Clean the slide and sensor and test with known-good coins.
- Check the coin drop connector and wires back to the control, with power locked out.
- Meter the coin drop output while a coin passes.
- Test the control's coin input, then replace the drop or the control as needed.
- The coin drop wires into the control area, where 208-240 V parts are live. Coin boxes hold cash and need to be opened by someone responsible. Telling a bad sensor from a bad control input needs a meter.

Why are coins being refused?
If the control cannot read the pulse, it will not credit the coin. A bent coin or residue is the usual reason.
Does Err stop the washer from working?
The washer is fine, but paid cycles will not start.
Can I just cycle the power?
It does not hurt, but the sensor path still needs cleaning or repair.
