IPSO Washer-Extractor Error Code E db: VFD Balance Input
E db on an IPSO CHM495R F-speed washer-extractor means the VFD balance switch input was closed at the start of a drain, which the control reads as an unbalanced basket. Power down to clear the message, spread the linen evenly and run the drain and spin again.
Low: a protective stop that normally clears once the load is rebalanced.

What does IPSO error code E db mean?
E db appears only on CHM495R washer-extractors of the F-speed type, where a variable-frequency drive controls the basket. As a drain begins, the control looks at the VFD balance switch input. That switch closes when the basket is out of balance. If it is already closed at the moment the drain starts, the control concludes that the load is lopsided before the spin even builds, and the drive stops the cycle. Plant staff find a machine paused at drain or spin with a lopsided load of wet linen. The manual says to power down to clear the message. Packing the batch better solves most cases, while a sticking switch or loose mounting is behind repeats. Because the check happens at the start of drain, a switch that sticks closed from the previous spin can mimic a real imbalance.
Affected models and control systems
CHM495R washer-extractors of the F-speed type, 20 to 100 lb, with the front-end control. Other controller generations use different codes.
Code numbers and their meaning can change between control generations. We match the full model and control before acting on a code.
What you may notice
- Cycle pauses at the start of drain
- E db on the display
- Linen bunched on one side of the drum
- Spin never starts
Possible causes
Listed in IPSO's documentation
- Linens bunched unevenly in the basket at the start of drain
- A drive balance switch that sticks or is badly adjusted
- Worn suspension or loose mounting that lets the machine sway
Other likely causes — what usually sits behind error code E db on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.
- A balance switch contact that sticks after a heavy spin
- Wiring on the balance input that is shorted or damaged
- A mounting bolt loose on the frame
- Wet towels wrapped around the drum center post
Safe checks before calling for service
- Isolate the machine to clear the message, as the manual says.
- Once the lock releases, spread the linen evenly.
- Run the drain and spin again with a better balanced batch.
- Contact us if E db keeps coming back, and note the load type.
How a technician diagnoses error code E db
- Read the code history and see whether E db follows heavy loads or appears every drain.
- Run a test load and watch the drum at drain start.
- Check the balance switch travel, adjustment and return with power locked out.
- Test the balance input wiring for a short.
- Inspect suspension and mountings; replace the switch only if it fails the test.
- The balance switch lives close to the moving drum and live drive wiring. Adjusting it needs the right gap and lockout. A bad guess can disable the protection against a violent spin.
How error code E db differs from similar codes
E db is specific to the F-speed VFD version. The standard unbalance message on this family is E Ub.

Can I keep running after E db?
Yes, once the linen is redistributed. Repeat stops need a check.
Is E db the same as E Ub?
Both mean imbalance, but E db comes from the VFD balance input at drain start, while E Ub is the general unbalance stop.
Will E db clear itself?
A power-down clears the message. It returns if the switch or load is still wrong.
