IPSO Washer-Extractor Error Code E do: Locked Door Pulled

E do on an IPSO CHM495R washer-extractor means the control saw the door-open and door-locked signals high at the same time, which usually means someone pulled on the door during a cycle. Remove power to clear it and open the door only after the basket has stopped.

Medium · inspection needed

Medium: a safety stop; the machine will not resume until power is cycled.

What does IPSO error code E do mean?

A locked door should never also read as open. The control looks at two separate inputs: one that says the door is locked and one that says the door is open. During a cycle the first should be on and the second off. If someone hauls on the door while the drum is turning or coasting, the door moves enough to switch the open input while the lock input is still on. The control sees both at once, stops the cycle and displays E do. The stop protects the person at the door, because the drum may still be coasting. A wet load stays inside until the lock lets go. Pulling on the door is the usual reason, but when the code appears with nobody near the door, a misreading switch or a worn latch is the next suspect, since a door that rattles with vibration can briefly change the open signal.

Affected models and control systems

CHM495R washer-extractors, 20 to 100 lb, with the front-end control. Other controller generations use different codes.

Code numbers and their meaning can change between control generations. We match the full model and control before acting on a code.

What you may notice

  • Cycle stops suddenly
  • E do on the display
  • Door still locked with a wet load inside
  • Door feels loose when the code appears

Possible causes

Listed in IPSO's documentation

  • Door pulled while locked
  • Door switch and lock switch disagreeing

Other likely causes — what usually sits behind error code E do on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.

  • A door switch actuator that has loosened and moves with vibration
  • A latch worn so the door shifts under load
  • A door-input circuit reading open intermittently
  • Door hinge play that lets the door flex during spin

Safe checks before calling for service

✓ What an operator can do
  1. Remove power, which clears the message according to the manual.
  2. Keep hands and arms away from the drum until the lock has released.
  3. Open the door only after the basket has stopped.
  4. Ask us to test the switches if E do appears untouched, and tell us whether anyone was near the door.

How a technician diagnoses error code E do

  1. Read the code history and ask whether the door was touched at the time.
  2. Inspect hinges, latch and door switch actuator for play.
  3. Meter the door-open and door-locked inputs during a manual door movement.
  4. Check the wiring and connectors at the door frame with power locked out.
  5. Replace the switch or latch only after confirming the signals disagree.
! Leave this to a technician
  • Door switch and lock circuits are part of the safety interlock that stops a spinning drum. Working on them requires lockout and knowing the machine's wiring. A bypassed switch can let the door open while the basket spins.
