IPSO Washer-Extractor Error Code E Ht: Heater Time Exceeded

E Ht on a heated IPSO CHM495R washer-extractor means the heater ran for 120 minutes without reaching the programmed temperature. The control turned the heater off for the rest of the cycle and let the wash continue. Confirm the hot supply is open and note how far below the set temperature the wash ran.

Medium · inspection needed

Medium: the machine still washes, but heated formulas cannot be trusted.

What does IPSO error code E Ht mean?

When a formula calls for a set wash temperature, the control switches on the heater and watches the temperature sensor. It allows 120 minutes for the water to reach the target. If it never gets there, the control stops trying, turns the heater output off for the rest of the cycle and posts E Ht, while the wash itself continues. For an industrial laundry that matters, since thermal disinfection programs depend on the set temperature. A failed element, a contactor that is not closing, low supply temperature or a sensor that reads wrong may be behind it. The control is not telling you which one, only that the heat never arrived. Linen from that wash may not meet the temperature the formula promises, so a supervisor should decide whether to rewash it.

Affected models and control systems

Heated CHM495R washer-extractors, 20 to 100 lb, with the front-end control. Other controller generations use different codes.

Code numbers and their meaning can change between control generations. We match the full model and control before acting on a code.

What you may notice

  • Wash water cooler than the formula calls for
  • E Ht on the display
  • Heater never seems to warm the tub
  • Cycle continues without heat

Possible causes

Listed in IPSO's documentation

  • Heater did not reach programmed temperature within 120 minutes

Other likely causes — what usually sits behind error code E Ht on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.

  • Element and contactor behavior under load
  • Sensor accuracy against a reference reading
  • Supply water temperature and volume at the machine
  • The heater output on the control

Safe checks before calling for service

✓ What an operator can do
  1. Confirm the hot supply valve is open and the incoming water is warm.
  2. Note how far below the set temperature the wash ran.
  3. Do not touch heater wiring or open any panel.
  4. Use the online form to arrange service, and bring the formula number.

How a technician diagnoses error code E Ht

  1. Read the code history and confirm the formula and set temperature.
  2. Measure incoming hot water temperature at the machine.
  3. Check the heater contactor operation and element current with a clamp meter.
  4. Test the temperature sensor against a reference thermometer.
  5. Replace the element, contactor or sensor only after the measured results point there.
! Leave this to a technician
  • Heater elements and contactors carry high current at 208-240 V, with the cabinet live while testing. Elements sit in the tub and can leak when replaced wrongly. Judging a sensor's accuracy needs a reference reading, not a guess.

How error code E Ht differs from similar codes

E Ht should not be confused with E oP and E SH, which report a broken or shorted temperature sensor circuit.

E HtQuestions about IPSO error code E Ht
Is the linen from an E Ht wash clean?

It was washed, but not at the programmed temperature, so a supervisor should decide on a rewash.

Can I keep using the washer?

For washes that do not need heat, yes. Heated formulas need the repair first.

Does E Ht mean the heater is broken?

Not always. Low supply temperature or a bad sensor can look the same.
