IPSO Washer-Extractor Error Code Ed09: Drive Current Sensing
Ed09 on an IPSO CHM495R washer-extractor means the drive's current sensor was not working properly at startup, so the drive will not run the motor. Switch power off and on, as the manual directs, and watch whether the code returns as soon as a formula starts. Book service if it repeats.
Medium: the step will not start, but a restart often clears a one-time event.

What does IPSO error code Ed09 mean?
Every time it starts, the drive checks the sensor that measures motor current. Current measurement is how the drive controls torque and how it protects itself, so a sensor that cannot be trusted rules out running the motor. When the startup check fails, the drive refuses to run and the control shows Ed09. Plant staff see the machine stop at the start of a step with the code showing. Restarting is what the manual calls for, which gives the drive a second chance to pass its check. If it repeats, the sensor circuit on the drive board is the likely cause. That circuit is not serviceable by the operator, and the cover stays on because it protects live parts. Conditions like heat, damp or a weak supply at start-up can also push the check over the edge.
Affected models and control systems
CHM495R washer-extractors, 20 to 100 lb, with the front-end control. Other controller generations use different codes.
Code numbers and their meaning can change between control generations. We match the full model and control before acting on a code.
What you may notice
- Machine stops at the start of a step
- Ed09 on the display
- Motor never gets current
- Same stop at every start of a formula
Possible causes
Listed in IPSO's documentation
- Current sensor circuit on the drive board
- Supply conditions at start-up
- Plug and terminal condition at the drive
- Heat or damp damage on the board
Other likely causes — what usually sits behind error code Ed09 on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.
- Humidity getting into the drive enclosure
- Supply sagging at the instant the drive starts its check
- A connector on the drive that has oxidized
- A sensor circuit that has aged out of range
Safe checks before calling for service
- Switch power off and on, as the manual directs.
- Watch whether the code returns as soon as a formula starts.
- Keep the drive cover on; it protects live parts.
- Book service with us if Ed09 repeats, and tell us whether it comes at every start.
How a technician diagnoses error code Ed09
- Read the code history and see if Ed09 comes on every start or only some.
- Check the supply at the machine during start-up.
- Inspect the drive board, connectors and enclosure for moisture or heat marks.
- Observe the drive with the motor leads disconnected to isolate the sensor circuit.
- Replace the drive only after the supply and connections are good.
- The drive holds live 208-240 V parts and charged capacitors. A sensor circuit can only be judged by working inside the drive. A wrong call replaces a costly drive for no gain.

Does Ed09 mean the motor is damaged?
No. The drive stops before sending current to the motor.
Is one restart enough?
Sometimes. If Ed09 comes straight back, the sensor circuit is probably the problem.
Is Ed09 linked to Ed08?
Both involve current, but Ed08 means too much, while Ed09 means the sensor cannot be trusted.
