Electrolux Washer Extractor Error Code 18: Start Not Allowed
Error code 18 means the machine program unit has been disabled by a superior monitoring system. This is not a washer breakdown. The manual says to contact the supplier of the monitoring system.
Low: the machine is healthy and blocked by an outside system, so the fix is usually an administrative one.

What does Electrolux Professional error code 18 mean?
Some laundries connect their washers to a superior monitoring system, such as a payment or management unit that decides when machines may run. That system can send a disable command to the machine program unit. When it does, the CPU board refuses to start a program and shows ERROR 018 / START NOT ALLOWED. The washer itself is normally healthy. The block comes from outside, so the person to ask is whoever supplied or manages the monitoring system, which is what the manual advises. If the machine is not connected to any such system, the message points to an unusual setup or a communication problem and a technician should look at it. The message often appears on one machine while neighbors run normally, because the system can disable machines individually.
Affected models and control systems
This applies to the W465H-W4300H, W475S-W4330S and W475N-W4330N washer-extractors, Type W3..., with the Compass Control. The message only applies where a superior monitoring system is connected to the machine.
Code numbers and their meaning can change between control generations. We match the full model and control before acting on a code.
What you may notice
- Display shows ERROR 018 / START NOT ALLOWED
- Start key has no effect
- Other machines on the site may run normally
- Machine was working before the monitoring system changed
Possible causes
Likely causes — what usually sits behind error code 18 on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.
- Monitoring system account or payment status blocking the machine
- Machine address changed in the monitoring system and now disabled
- Communication problem making the system treat the machine as disabled
Safe checks before calling for service
- Ask who manages the monitoring or payment system and whether the machine was disabled on purpose.
- Check whether neighboring machines are also showing the message.
- Switch the machine off and on once to see if the system re-enables it.
- If it persists, note the date, the machine number and any recent system changes, then contact the monitoring system supplier or us.
How a technician diagnoses error code 18
- Read the code and confirm that a monitoring system is connected.
- Ask the site for the status of the machine in the monitoring system.
- Check the communication cable and settings between the CPU board and the system.
- Test whether the machine runs in local mode, if the setup allows it.
- Involve the monitoring system supplier if the machine is being disabled from outside.
- The block comes from a system we do not control, so the first call goes to its supplier.
- If the cause is on the machine, communication settings need the service menu.
- Bypassing a monitoring system on a shared machine can break the site's access or billing rules.
How error code 18 differs from similar codes
Code 18 is a command from outside the machine; code 19 means the link to that system was lost.
