Electrolux Washer-Dryer Error Code 75: Fan Motor Too Hot
Error code 75 means the thermal protection switch in the fan motor, or its harness, is open. The manual equates it to E 05 in Selecta II. Let the machine cool and check that the air path is clear, and then call us if it repeats.
High: a motor protection switch has opened, and continued running can damage the fan motor.

- Compass Control dryer program unit
What does Electrolux Professional error code 75 mean?
The fan motor moves the drying air, and it carries a thermal protection switch in its windings. The switch is normally closed. If the motor overheats, the switch opens to stop it from burning out. The dryer program unit watches that circuit and shows ERROR 075 / FAN MOTOR TOO HOT when it opens. Because an open wire looks the same as an open switch, a broken harness gives the same message even if the motor is cool. The manual does not list causes and sends the technician to E 05 in the Selecta II service manual. In practice, restricted airflow from a clogged filter or exhaust makes a fan motor work harder, so it is the first thing to rule out. Staff notice that the dryer stops and may start again after resting, if the switch recloses.
Affected models and control systems
This applies to the Compass Control washer-dryers WD4130 and WD4240, and the manual says the dryer codes apply only to these two. The code comes from the dryer program unit and corresponds to E 05 in the Selecta II manual.
Code numbers and their meaning can change between control generations. We match the full model and control before acting on a code.
What you may notice
- Display shows ERROR 075 / FAN MOTOR TOO HOT
- Dryer stops during a drying cycle
- Warm air flow is weak before the stop
- Machine works again after a rest
Possible causes
Likely causes — what usually sits behind error code 75 on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.
- Lint filter or exhaust restricted so the fan runs under load
- Fan bearings dragging and warming the motor
- Harness to the thermal switch broken or loose
Safe checks before calling for service
- Switch the machine off and let it cool.
- Clean the lint filter and make sure the exhaust outlet is free.
- Restart a drying program and see if it runs.
- If it repeats, note how long the dryer ran before it stopped, then call us.
How a technician diagnoses error code 75
- Read the code and confirm it matches E 05 in the Selecta II manual.
- Follow the Selecta II service manual steps for E 05.
- Check the fan, its bearings and the air path.
- Test the thermal switch and its harness for continuity.
- Replace the fan motor or harness after the test.
- The fan motor and its protective switch are inside the cabinet and are measured with the machine isolated.
- Distinguishing a real overheat from an open harness needs a meter and a running check.
- A fan that overheats repeatedly can be a sign of a worn motor.
How error code 75 differs from similar codes
Code 75 is the fan motor thermal switch; code 76 is the same check on the drum motor.

Is the fan actually hot?
It may be, or the harness may be open. A meter tells the two apart.
Will it run again after cooling?
Often yes if the switch recloses, but the cause should still be found.
Does lint matter?
Yes. A blocked air path makes the fan work harder and heat up.
