Randell Prep Table Error Code uHi: Line Voltage Too High
UHi means the line voltage is too high on a Randell 8000-290 or 9000W-290 prep table with the Danfoss controller. The table may stop cooling to protect itself, so check the food temperature and move food if it is warming. The cause is in the power supply, so have a qualified electrician check the voltage.
High: the compressor is blocked and the table may not cool until the supply is corrected.

What does Randell error code UHi mean?
The Danfoss controller on these prep tables measures the supply voltage. A compressor motor is designed to run within about 10 percent of the nameplate voltage, and above that range it can overheat and be damaged. When the supply goes above the safe range, the controller shows uHi and stops the compressor to protect it. The result is a table that stops cooling while the lights and display may still work, so food can warm while uHi is showing. The cause is in the power supply, not in the table. The manual's list includes the supply voltage at the outlet running above the safe range, heavy equipment sharing the circuit and pushing voltage up, loose or damaged wiring ahead of the prep table, and a controller voltage reading that is off. Loose wiring is listed because a poor connection can distort a measurement as well as a supply. When the supply is proven normal and uHi continues, the next suspect is the controller reading. Writing down the time uHi appears can help an electrician see a pattern.
Affected models and control systems
This applies to Randell 8000-290 and 9000W-290 series prep tables with the Danfoss controller, such as the 8148N-290 and 9148W-290. The safe range is within 10 percent of the nameplate voltage.
Code numbers and their meaning can change between control generations. We match the full model and control before acting on a code.
What you may notice
- UHi on the Danfoss display
- The compressor not starting
- Pans warming while the display stays lit
- Lights flickering or dimming elsewhere in the kitchen
Possible causes
Listed in Randell's documentation
- Supply voltage at the outlet running above the safe range
- Heavy equipment sharing the circuit and pushing voltage up
- Loose or damaged wiring ahead of the prep table
- Controller voltage reading that is off
Other likely causes — what usually sits behind error code UHi on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.
- Utility voltage running high at certain hours of the day
- Building transformer tap set high for the load
- Large equipment cycling off and letting voltage rise on a shared panel
Safe checks before calling for service
- Write down uHi and note the time.
- Check pan temperature with a thermometer and move food if it is warming.
- Do not use an extension cord or a shared power strip.
- Have a qualified electrician check the supply voltage, and give them the nameplate voltage and the time uHi appeared.
How a technician diagnoses error code UHi
- Read the display and confirm uHi.
- Measure the supply voltage at the outlet or the plug with a meter, with and without other loads running.
- Compare the measurement to the nameplate voltage and the 10 percent range.
- Inspect the outlet, plug and cord for damage or loose connections.
- Check the controller's voltage reading against the meter.
- Report the supply problem to the building, or replace the controller if the supply is proven normal.
- Measuring supply voltage means a meter on a live 115 to 230 V circuit.
- A high supply is a building or utility issue that may need an electrician to correct at the panel.
- If the controller is misreading, only a measurement against a calibrated meter can show it.
How error code UHi differs from similar codes
UHi is high line voltage and uLi is low line voltage. Both are supply conditions on the Danfoss controller.

Is the table broken?
Probably not. The controller is protecting the compressor from a supply problem.
Will it restart by itself?
It can, once the voltage returns to the safe range, but the cause may recur.
Who should I call first?
An electrician for the supply, and us if the voltage proves normal.
