Repairs this series usually needs

  1. No ice sensed retries and shutdowns at code 1
  2. Auger motor high load at code 2
  3. No water in the reservoir at code 3
  4. Refrigeration pressure too high or low at code 4
  5. Self test failure shown as E

Scotsman makes flake and nugget ice for beverages, healthcare and bars. The FS models make flake ice, and the NH and NS models make nugget ice. Examples include the FS0522, FS1222, NH0422, NS0622, NH0922 and NS1322, with an X at the end for the newer version.

These machines use an auger inside a freezing barrel, so scale and water quality matter. The controller shows codes: 1 means no ice sensed, 2 means the auger motor is under high load, 3 means no water in the reservoir, and 4 means refrigeration pressure is out of range. A flashing number means retrying and a steady number means shutdown.

We check the water supply and scale first, then the auger and motor, then the sealed system.

FAQScotsman Prodigy Plus Flake and Nugget Ice Machines questions
What is the difference between flake and nugget?

Flake ice is thin and soft, and nugget ice is small and chewable. Both come from an auger and barrel, so both are sensitive to scale.

How do I reset it after a shutdown?

For codes 1 to 4 the maker lists pressing Off and then On. If the code returns, leave the machine off and call us, since the cause is still there.

Why is code 2 serious?

A high load on the auger motor can burn out the motor or gearbox. Do not restart repeatedly. Turn it off and let us look at scale, jams and wear.
