Hoshizaki Ice Machine 6 Beeps: Low Voltage

Six beeps on a Hoshizaki KM or KMH ice machine mean the control voltage is at 92 VAC plus or minus 5% or less. The red POWER OK LED turns off on E and G boards. The safety resets automatically once the voltage is corrected, and no reset is needed.

Medium · inspection needed

High: the machine will not run until the supply voltage is corrected.

Applies to
KM / KMD / KML / KMS crescent cubers, "E", "G" and "J" control boards (KM-1301 to KM-2600, KMD-460/530, KML-250 to 631, KMS-822); DCM cubelet ice maker/dispenser and F-2001 / F-1501 "J" flakers (5-second beep interval)

What does Hoshizaki error code 6 beeps mean?

The control board runs on a reduced control voltage, and it watches that voltage. If it falls to 92 VAC plus or minus 5% or lower, the board treats the supply as too weak to operate reliably. It sounds six beeps, and on the KM E and G boards the red POWER OK LED goes out. The machine stops until the voltage is back in range, and the safety resets itself without any button. The manual's action is simply to correct the supply voltage. Low voltage can come from the building supply, an overloaded circuit, a long or undersized run, a loose connection at the breaker, or a transformer problem. The same alarm exists on DCM and F flakers, where the green POWER LED goes off and the buzzer sounds every 5 seconds, but LED color differs by model. Check the voltage with a meter at the machine while it is trying to run.

Affected models and control systems

KM-1301SAH/3 through KM-2500 and KMH-2000 stackable cubers with E and G control boards; the same table appears in the manual for the KMD-460/530 and KML-250 to 631 G-board models. The same alarm is used on DCM and F flakers, per the flaker instruction manual.

Code numbers and their meaning can change between control generations. We match the full model and control before acting on a code.

What you may notice

  • Six beeps
  • Red POWER OK LED off on KM E and G boards
  • Machine shut down
  • Lights or other equipment dimming on the same circuit

Possible causes

Likely causes — what usually sits behind error code 6 beeps on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.

  • Control voltage at 92 VAC plus or minus 5% or less
  • A shared circuit overloaded by other equipment
  • A loose breaker or disconnect connection that drops voltage under load
  • An undersized or very long supply run to the machine

Safe checks before calling for service

✓ What an operator can do
  1. Check whether other equipment on the same circuit is running and turn some off.
  2. Make sure the machine's disconnect and breaker are fully on.
  3. Do not reset anything; the alarm clears itself when the voltage is corrected.
  4. Tell the technician when it happens, such as when the compressor starts.

How a technician diagnoses error code 6 beeps

  1. Measure supply voltage at the machine, idle and while the machine tries to start.
  2. Check the breaker, disconnect and terminals for heat damage or looseness.
  3. Check the circuit loading and wire size.
  4. Check the control transformer output.
  5. Correct the supply and confirm the POWER OK LED returns.
! Leave this to a technician
  • Voltage measurement and terminal checks are live electrical work.
  • Correcting a supply problem may involve the building's electrical panel.
  • A weak supply can damage the compressor if the machine keeps trying to start.

How error code 6 beeps differs from similar codes

6 beeps is low control voltage and 7 beeps is high control voltage; both reset on their own when the supply is corrected. On DCM and F flakers the light is a green POWER LED instead of the red POWER OK LED.

6 beepsQuestions about Hoshizaki error code 6 beeps
Do I press a reset button?

No. The manual says the safety resets automatically when the voltage is corrected.

Which LED goes off?

On KM E and G boards, the red POWER OK LED turns off. On DCM and F flakers, the green POWER LED goes off.

Can the building supply cause it?

Yes. Low voltage from the supply is the usual source, so correct the supply.
