Model numbers in this series
Find yours on the data plate. Letters after the base number usually mark the voltage, finish or door and do not change the repair.
- HL300
- HL400
Repairs this series usually needs
- Bowl lift that binds or will not hold its position
- Speed change that grinds or hesitates
- Mixer that stops under a stiff dough
- Timer that resets by itself
The HL300 and HL400 are 30 and 40 quart floor mixers in the Hobart Legacy+ line. They stand on the floor with an ergonomic bowl lift, and the control has a SmartTimer and Shift-on-the-Fly speed change. The data plate carries the model number, which tells us the bowl size right away.
These mixers do hard daily work in bakeries and kitchens, so we look at the bowl lift first, then the speed change, then the guard switch and timer. Flour dust and moisture in a kitchen find their way into controls and into the moving parts of the lift.
A floor mixer that is still working after many seasons deserves a fair look before anyone talks about replacement. We give a written price first, and if the bowl lift or gearbox is past saving, we tell you that plainly.

Read the model number on the data plate. The HL300 is the 30 quart size and the HL400 is the 40 quart size. Giving us that number when you call helps us confirm the right parts before the visit.
What does Shift-on-the-Fly mean?
It lets the operator change speed while the mixer is turning. If speed changes grind or hesitate, we check the shift mechanism and the gears, since those are the parts that take the wear.
Is a worn bowl lift worth fixing on an HL400?
Often it is, because the lift is a mechanical part that can be cleaned, adjusted or replaced without touching the drive. If the damage runs deeper, we explain the cost against the mixer's age before any work.
