Repairs this series usually needs

  1. Drive codes such as OC, OU, LU and OH1
  2. Mixer that is dead with the display dark
  3. Bowl lift or guard switch that is not making
  4. Motor that hums and does not turn

The HL600, HL800 and HL1400 are the large Hobart Legacy+ planetary mixers, at 60, 80 and 140 quarts. They have an electric bowl lift, the VFDadvantage drive and FastStop. On the HL800 and HL1400 the motor drive reports its own codes on the SmartTimer display, and those codes are the best clue we get.

When one of these stops, we read the code first, because the drive tells us a lot about supply, load and heat.

Before we quote a drive repair on an older large mixer, we measure the supply and check the room temperature, since both can mimic a bad drive. The price is in writing first, and a repair that is not worth making gets a plain answer from us.

FAQHobart Legacy+ HL600, HL800 and HL1400 Floor Mixers questions
Which of these mixers have a drive that shows codes?

The HL800 and HL1400 show motor drive codes on the SmartTimer display. We read the code and ask what the mixer was doing, then test supply, load and heat before touching the drive.

Why does my large mixer stop in a hot kitchen?

The drive is rated for a limited room temperature. A hot kitchen and flour dust on the vents can trip an overheating code, so clear vents and a cooler spot both help.

Should I replace the drive or the whole mixer?

That depends on the age of the mixer and what the code points to. We test supply and motor first, price the drive repair in writing, and tell you honestly how it compares with a new machine.
