Repairs this series usually needs
- Mixer that will not start with the guard down
- Motor hum and no rotation under heavy dough
- Bowl drive noise
- Timer and control failures
The HSL and HSU series are Hobart spiral dough mixers: HSL130, HSL180, HSL220, HSL300 and HSU440. A spiral hook and a turning bowl suit bread and pizza dough, so these mixers are found in bakeries and pizzerias.
On a spiral mixer we check the guard switch, the timer and the contactor first, then the bowl drive and the belt or chain that turns it. Heavy dough and hot, humid shop air are hard on all of them, and a belt that has stretched can make a mixer hum without turning the bowl.
A spiral mixer is the backbone of many bakeries, so we plan the visit around your baking schedule where we can. You get a written price first, and we tell you plainly when a bowl drive or motor repair would not pay off.

The HSL130, HSL180, HSL220, HSL300 and HSU440 are the spiral mixers in this group. The model number on the data plate tells you which one you have.
How can I tell which spiral model I have?
Read the number on the data plate. The HSL130, HSL180, HSL220 and HSL300 and the HSU440 are all different sizes, and giving us the number helps us confirm the right belt and parts.
How do I know if the belt is the problem?
A belt that has stretched lets the motor hum while the bowl barely turns, usually under a stiff dough. We check belt tension and wear along with the motor, and show you what we found.
