Ditting Models We Repair
Ditting grinders are mostly mechanical shop grinders, the kind that stand at the front of a coffee shop or grocery. The KR 1203 and KR 1403 are plug-powered, while the KFA 1203 and KFA 1403 have an on/off switch, and there is an Industrial version of the KFA 1403. The 804 series, the KR 804, KF 804 and K 804 LAB, is older, and we repair it too.
These grinders have no display and no error codes, so the signs are simple and so are our checks. If the grinder makes noise but does not grind, either the spout is clogged or the grind is too fine for the beans. The owner’s manual says to set the grind to its coarsest setting. After that we look at the spout, the burrs and the motor.
Foreign Objects and Power
A stone, a screw or another hard object in the beans can jam the grinding mechanism, and it should not be forced out. We remove it, inspect the burrs for damage and set the grind again. A plug that has been pulled around, a damaged cord or a weak outlet can look like a dead grinder, so we test the power supply before we open anything.
Oily beans leave residue in the spout and chute, and a shop that grinds all day sees it quickly, so we clean the path while the grinder is open.
