Common Berkel problems we fix
In plain words, the way kitchen and laundry staff describe them when they call.
Blade does not turn
Slices come out uneven
Knife will not sharpen
Carriage is hard to move
Automatic stroke fails to start
Berkel Slicers We Repair
Berkel’s B-Series gravity-feed slicers are the B9, B10, B12, B12A and B14, with knives from 9 to 14 inches. The X13-PLUS and X13A-PLUS are 13-inch slicers with a hardened stainless knife and a half-horsepower motor. The 300M and 330M are flywheel slicers for prosciutto, and the MB series are countertop bread slicers sold by slice thickness. Older 823, 825, 827 and 829 slicers, along with the first X13 and X13A, still cut every day in delis and grocery meat departments.
Where We Start
These are mechanical slicers, so there are no display codes. When the blade does not turn, we check the motor, the start switch and the gauge plate interlock, which stops the slicer on some models if the plate is open. Uneven slices point to a dull knife or a gauge plate out of adjustment. A knife that will not sharpen usually has worn sharpener stones, and a carriage that is hard to move needs the slide cleaned, lubricated and checked for worn bushings.
On an automatic model such as the B12A, a stroke that fails to start sends us to the drive and the controls. Slicers are washed daily, and moisture gets into switches and bearings over the years. We say plainly when an older machine is not worth the repair. The price goes in writing before work, and a 30-day warranty covers the repair.

Yes. We service the older 823, 825, 827 and 829 slicers along with the B-Series. If a repair would cost more than the slicer is worth, we tell you before any work starts.
Why will my Berkel slicer blade not turn?
The motor, the start switch or the gauge plate interlock is the usual place to look. We test each one and give you a written price before replacing a part.
Can you repair the sharpener on a Berkel slicer?
Yes. Worn sharpener stones are the usual reason a knife will not sharpen. We replace them, check the mount and the knife, and tell you the price in writing first.
