XLT Pizza Oven Error Code PCB Temp Probe: Control Board Sensor Alarm

PCB Temp Probe means the temperature sensor on the control board reads open or shorted. The manual's only step is a hard reset: unplug the oven for one minute, plug it back in and power on. If the error still exists, contact XLT.

Medium · inspection needed

High: the controller reports a problem on its own board and the oven may not heat.

What does XLT PCB Temp Probe mean?

The controller board in an XLT oven carries its own temperature sensor, which lets the controller know how warm the electronics are running. The controller expects a sensible reading from that sensor. When the circuit looks open or looks shorted, the controller raises the alarm named PCB Temp Probe on the LUI display, and the HEAT LED on the controller flashes with the Alarm LED lit. This alarm is about the board, not the oven cavity. The oven probe has its own alarm, called Oven Probe, so the two should not be mixed up. The manual defines this alarm in one line, lists no separate causes, and gives the hard reset as the action, with a call to XLT at 888-443-2751 if the error continues. Because the sensor sits on the board itself, a persistent alarm usually leads to the board rather than to wiring in the oven.

Affected models and control systems

XLT conveyor ovens, gas version H (Standard, World, Australia, Korea) with the LUI/OMC controller. The electric version H Parts & Service Manual XD 9007A prints the same table.

Code numbers and their meaning can change between control generations. We match the full model and control before acting on a code.

What you may notice

  • PCB Temp Probe alarm on the LUI display
  • HEAT LED flashing with Alarm LED on at the controller
  • Oven that stops heating or will not start a bake

Possible causes

Likely causes — what usually sits behind PCB Temp Probe on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.

  • Sensor on the control board has failed open or shorted
  • Damage to the board from heat, moisture or grease in the control area
  • Power surge that damaged the sensor circuit

Safe checks before calling for service

✓ What an operator can do
  1. Switch the oven off at the controls.
  2. Unplug the oven for one minute, plug it in again and power on to do the manual's hard reset.
  3. See whether PCB Temp Probe returns once the oven has run for a few minutes.
  4. If it returns, do not keep restarting the oven; contact XLT or a service company.
  5. Report whether the control area felt unusually hot or damp, and when the alarm first appeared.

How a technician diagnoses PCB Temp Probe

  1. Read the alarm and confirm it is PCB Temp Probe, not Oven Probe.
  2. Check the control enclosure for heat, moisture or grease and for cooling airflow.
  3. Inspect the board for visible damage and check the supply feeding it.
  4. Check connectors at the board, then compare operation after a power cycle.
  5. Replace the board only when the alarm persists and the supply and connections are good.
! Leave this to a technician
  • The control board sits in an enclosure with live 208-240 V wiring.
  • Deciding whether a board must be replaced takes a technician's measurements, since the alarm is the board reporting on itself.
  • Ordering the right board needs the oven's model and serial data and the service manual.

How PCB Temp Probe differs from similar codes

This is the board sensor alarm. The similar-sounding Oven Probe alarm concerns the temperature probe in the oven cavity.

PCB Temp ProbeQuestions about XLT PCB Temp Probe
Is PCB Temp Probe the same as Oven Probe?

No. PCB Temp Probe is the controller board's own sensor. Oven Probe is the probe in the oven cavity.

Will a hard reset clear it?

The manual lists a hard reset as the step. If the sensor circuit is damaged, the alarm returns.

Can I keep running pizzas?

Not while the alarm is active. The controller has flagged a problem with its own board, so have it checked.
