The CPU board measures water level with its own internal level system, which has to be calibrated so that a given pressure reading means a given water height. That calibration is done at the factory and stored in the board. If the board starts up and finds that no calibration has been written, it shows ERROR 014 / LEVEL ADJUST, because it cannot judge fill levels without it.
