Convotherm Combi Oven Error Code E05: No Gas Supply
E05 on a Convotherm C4 means the oven reports no gas. Open the gas shut-off device and restart the unit. If E05 returns, the problem is somewhere on the supply side or inside the burner system, and a technician should look at it.
High: a gas oven cannot heat without gas, and gas problems need safe handling.

What does Convotherm error code E05 mean?
A gas combi oven will only light its burner when the control confirms that gas is available and the ignition sequence completes. When the oven calls for heat and does not get the gas it expects, it stops the attempt and shows E05 No gas. The control cannot tell why gas is missing; it only reports that the sequence did not get what it needed. The most common reason in a working kitchen is that the gas shut-off device on the supply line was closed during cleaning, a move or work on the line, and nobody opened it again. Other causes sit further along: a building supply that is off, a regulator that is not passing gas, or a valve in the oven that does not open. Because the oven cannot heat without the burner, E05 stops cooking right away, and the manual's response is limited to the one step an operator can safely take, which is to open the shut-off and restart.
Affected models and control systems
Convotherm 4 (C4) floor-standing combi ovens, from the UL / USA operating manual. Table-top and maxx pro models are not named in the text we read.
Code numbers and their meaning can change between control generations. We match the full model and control before acting on a code.
What you may notice
- E05 No gas displayed
- Oven does not heat and the fan runs without a burner flame
- Preheat never finishes
- Clicking from the ignition and no flame
Possible causes
Likely causes — what usually sits behind error code E05 on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.
- Gas shut-off valve left closed after cleaning or kitchen work
- Building gas supply off or interrupted
- Gas regulator or flexible line not passing enough gas
- Gas valve in the oven not opening on the call for heat
Safe checks before calling for service
- Check that the gas shut-off device for the oven is fully open, with the handle in line with the pipe.
- If you smell gas at any point, leave the area, do not touch switches, and call the gas utility.
- Restart the unit and wait for the burner to light.
- If E05 returns, do not keep restarting; stop using the oven and contact Customer Service.
- Note whether other gas appliances on the same line are working, and what the oven did before the code appeared.
How a technician diagnoses error code E05
- Read the E05 code and history and check whether the code appeared during ignition or after the burner was running.
- Confirm gas is available at the oven connection and measure supply and manifold pressure.
- Check the gas shut-off and any quick-disconnect or flexible line for restriction.
- Test the gas valve for coil voltage and for gas flow when the control calls for heat.
- Inspect the ignition and flame sensing circuit for the burner.
- Replace the gas valve or ignition parts only after the checks show which is not working.
- Gas pressure, valves and burner work is regulated work with a leak and fire risk, and a leak check has to be done after any gas part is touched.
- The ignition and flame circuit runs at line voltage behind the panels and is tested live.
- A closed shut-off may be the only cause, but an operator cannot tell that from a failed gas valve without measuring.

Is E05 only about a closed gas valve?
That is the first thing to check, and it is the manual's own step. If the valve is open and the code returns, the cause is in the supply or the oven.
Can I keep restarting until the burner lights?
No. Repeated restarts do not fix a gas supply problem and can build up unburned gas. Call a technician if one restart does not work.
Does E05 appear on electric ovens?
No. It is a gas message, so it belongs to gas-fired models only.
