Alto-Shaam Combi Oven Error Code E03: Fan Motor Error
E03 Fan Motor Error means the convection fan motor did not turn within 60 seconds, as read by its Hall Effect sensor. Press the Start icon to acknowledge it. If E03 comes back, the fan, its motor control or the sensor needs service.
High: without a proven convection fan the oven cannot cook evenly and the program stops.

What does Alto-Shaam error code E03 mean?
The convection fan moves hot air through the cavity, so the control checks that it is really turning. Each time the motor is told to run, a Hall Effect sensor reports rotation back to the board. If no rotation is reported within 60 seconds, the control posts E03 Fan Motor Error. On a table-top oven this is the single convection motor; on a roll-in oven it is the upper motor. The manual lists three situations: the motor or fan wheel is locked, the motor control shows a flashing LED that points to its own code list, or the Hall sensor is not detecting rotation even though the fan may be turning. Pressing Start acknowledges the message and the oven then tries to return to normal operation, but the same 60-second check runs at the next start. Without airflow the cavity heats unevenly, so the control does not let cooking continue without the fan proving itself.
Affected models and control systems
Alto-Shaam Combitherm CT PROformance and CT Classic combi ovens, models 6-10, 10-10, 7-20, 10-20, 20-10 and 20-20, electric and gas. On roll-in ovens E03 refers to the upper motor; CT Express lists it as Convection Fan Motor Error.

What you may notice
- E03 Fan Motor Error on the display
- No sound of the fan starting, or a grinding noise
- Food cooking unevenly if the oven keeps running
Possible causes
Listed in Alto-Shaam's documentation
- Motor or fan wheel locked
- Motor control LED flashing, which refers to the motor control codes
- Hall Effect sensor not detecting rotation
Other likely causes — what usually sits behind error code E03 on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.
- A bent fan wheel or loose wheel hub catching on the baffle
- Food debris or a dropped tray rack pin jammed behind the fan baffle
Safe checks before calling for service
- Press the Start icon once to acknowledge E03.
- Make sure the cavity is empty and there is nothing loose near the back wall of the oven.
- Switch the oven off and on once at the breaker only if your site procedure allows it.
- If E03 returns, note whether you hear the fan try to turn, and whether anything flashes on the control, then call.
How a technician diagnoses error code E03
- Read the code and check whether the oven is table-top or roll-in, since the upper motor is named.
- Remove the baffle and spin the fan wheel by hand to find a lock or binding.
- If the motor control LED flashes, count the blinks and look them up in the motor control code list.
- Verify the motor's supply and Hall sensor signal with a meter.
- Replace the motor, wheel or sensor only after the tests point to it.
- The fan sits behind the cavity baffle on a motor driven by a drive with live 208-240 V.
- Counting the control's LED blinks and reading its codes needs the cover removed.
- A seized motor can overheat and damage the drive if power is repeatedly reapplied.
How error code E03 differs from similar codes
E04 is the same check for the lower fan on roll-in ovens, while E03 refers to the table-top or upper motor.

What is the Hall Effect sensor?
It is the sensor that tells the control the fan is spinning; if it fails, the control assumes the motor is stalled.
Is E03 the same as E04?
No. E04 names the lower convection fan on roll-in models, E03 names the table-top or upper motor.
Can I cook without the fan?
The oven will not run reliably without airflow, and the control stops the program when it cannot confirm rotation.
