What does Alto-Shaam error code E07 mean?

Unlike E05, where the fan drive does not answer, E07 means the drive answers and says something is wrong. The drive, called the VFD, runs the convection fan on a table-top oven or the upper fan on a roll-in oven. It watches its own load, supply and temperature, and when it detects a problem it flashes a green LED in a pattern. The control board sees that report and posts E07 Error Received from VFD. The cause is not stated on the screen; the manual says to count the blinks and look them up in its motor control error list. The manual gives no fixed list of causes for E07 itself, only that list. Pressing Start acknowledges the message and the oven tries to return to normal operation, but if the drive's condition persists it reports again at the next start. This code therefore needs the blink count more than anything else.

Affected models and control systems

Applies to CT PROformance and CT Classic ovens of every listed size (6-10, 10-10, 7-20, 10-20, 20-10, 20-20), electric and gas. The table-top or upper drive reports under E07, and the lower drive of a roll-in reports under E08.

Code numbers and their meaning can change between control generations. We match the full model and control before acting on a code.

What you may notice

  • E07 Error Received from VFD on the display
  • Fan stopping or not starting
  • A green LED on the drive blinking in a repeating pattern, if you can see it

Possible causes

Listed in Alto-Shaam's documentation

  • The VFD LED blink code list gives the specific condition

Other likely causes — what usually sits behind error code E07 on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.

  • A drive running hot from restricted airflow around its cooling fins
  • A voltage dip or unstable supply that the drive reads as an error

Safe checks before calling for service

✓ What an operator can do
  1. Press the Start icon once to acknowledge E07.
  2. Make sure the oven's vents and the area around it are clear and not hot from nearby equipment.
  3. Do not open the cover to look at the LED; note only whether it was visible from outside.
  4. If E07 returns, tell the technician how many times it appeared and in which mode.

How a technician diagnoses error code E07

  1. Read the code and confirm the table-top or upper drive.
  2. With the cover off, watch the drive's green LED and count the blinks.
  3. Look up the count in the manual's motor control error list.
  4. Check supply voltage, motor winding resistance and airflow as the list directs.
  5. Replace the drive or motor only when the listed condition is confirmed.
! Leave this to a technician
  • The LED is read inside a compartment with live 208-240 V and a charged drive.
  • The meaning of the blinks must be matched to the manual's own list.
  • Motor winding and insulation tests need a meter and often disconnecting the motor.

How error code E07 differs from similar codes

E05 means no answer from the drive; E07 means the drive answers with its own error, so the problem is in the drive or its motor.

E07Questions about Alto-Shaam error code E07
Why does E07 not say what is wrong?

The drive reports through blinks on its LED; the screen only relays that an error exists.

Is E07 the same as E08?

No. E07 is the table-top or upper drive and E08 is the lower drive on roll-in ovens.

Can I clear it by pressing Start?

Start acknowledges it, but the drive reports again if its condition remains.
