What does Alto-Shaam error code E55 mean?
The oven vents moist air from the cavity through a motor-driven vent valve. A monitoring switch on the valve confirms that the vent has actually moved. The control starts the vent motor and waits. If 60 seconds pass without the switch opening, the control posts E55 Vent Not Open. On a single-vent oven this is the vent; on a dual-vent oven it is the lower vent. The manual lists two causes: the vent valve monitoring switch has failed, or the vent valve motor has failed. Pressing Start acknowledges the message and the oven then tries to return to normal operation, but the vent check is made again the next time venting is called. A vent that does not open can trap steam and humidity in the cavity, which affects browning and crisping. The CT Express manual describes the same condition as the browning valve not opening.
Affected models and control systems
Electric and gas CT PROformance and CT Classic combi ovens, 6-10 through 20-20. The number covers the single vent, or the lower vent where an oven has two.
Code numbers and their meaning can change between control generations. We match the full model and control before acting on a code.

Safe checks before calling for service
- Press the Start icon once to acknowledge E55.
- Look at the oven's outside vent opening for grease buildup or an obstruction.
- Do not force the vent open by hand.
- If E55 returns, note whether the oven was cooking in steam or dry mode, and call.
How a technician diagnoses error code E55
- Read the code and note whether the oven has one vent or two.
- Watch the vent motor run and see whether the flap moves.
- Check the monitoring switch for continuity as the valve moves.
- Inspect the linkage and flap for binding.
- Replace the motor or switch after the test shows which one failed.
- The vent motor and switch share the oven's live control wiring.
- The vent assembly sits in a hot area near the cavity.
- Switch and motor tests need a meter and timing.
How error code E55 differs from similar codes
E56 is the same check for the upper vent on dual-vent models; E55 covers the single vent or the lower one.
