What does Alto-Shaam error code E57 mean?

During rinsing the oven opens solenoid Y4 and sends water through a flow switch, which confirms that water is really moving. If the flow switch reports no water for at least 60 seconds, the control posts E57 No Rinse Water. The code is about rinse water, not steam generation, so it is separate from E01 and E51. The manual lists three causes: the water supply is shut off, the water pressure is low, or the flow switch is dirty or has failed. Pressing Start acknowledges the message and the oven then tries to return to normal operation, but the next rinse repeats the flow test. A kitchen with a closed shutoff valve, a clogged filter or a pressure drop in the building is the usual place to start. A flow switch fouled by minerals can report no flow even when water is passing.

Affected models and control systems

The CTP and CTC Combitherm line in all six sizes, electric and gas; the CT Express manual includes E57 as well.

Code numbers and their meaning can change between control generations. We match the full model and control before acting on a code.

Possible causes

Listed in Alto-Shaam's documentation

  • Water supply shut off
  • Water pressure low
  • Flow switch dirty or malfunctioning

Other likely causes — what usually sits behind error code E57 on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.

  • A plugged inlet filter screen on the Y4 line cutting flow below the switch threshold
  • Mineral deposits in the flow switch from hard water

Safe checks before calling for service

✓ What an operator can do
  1. Press the Start icon once to acknowledge E57.
  2. Check that the water shutoff valve behind the oven is fully open.
  3. Check that the hose is not kinked and that other taps in the kitchen have normal pressure.
  4. If E57 returns, note whether it came up in a rinse, in cleaning or in steam cooking.

How a technician diagnoses error code E57

  1. Read the code and note the operation in progress.
  2. Measure supply pressure and flow at the oven.
  3. Check solenoid Y4 for coil resistance and operation.
  4. Inspect the flow switch for scale and test it with a meter.
  5. Clean or replace the switch only after flow is proven.
! Leave this to a technician
  • Y4 and the flow switch are inside the oven near live wiring.
  • Flow tests need the water line opened.
  • Mineral cleaning of the switch requires disassembly.

How error code E57 differs from similar codes

E57 concerns rinse water and flow switch for Y4; E01 and E51 are generator fill checks involving Y1.

E57Questions about Alto-Shaam error code E57
Is E57 the same as E01?

No. E01 is about the steam generator filling; E57 is about rinse water at valve Y4.

Can I cook?

The oven tries to resume, but rinsing may fail until water flows.

Why 60 seconds?

That is how long the flow switch must see no water before the control posts the code.
