What does Alto-Shaam error code E212 mean?

The VFD that runs the convection fan produces heat of its own and needs cooling air. Its temperature sensor trips when it gets too warm, and the control posts E212 VFD Overheating. The manual lists five causes. The cooling fan has failed, the cooling fan air intake is blocked, the high limit switch has failed, the cooling fans are damaged, or the VFD itself is failing. Most are about airflow. The first things to look for are a blocked intake, such as lint, grease or boxes, and a slow or stopped cooling fan. The drive's LED blink code also applies. Pressing Start acknowledges the message and the oven then tries to return to normal operation, but a drive that is still hot will report again. E212 concerns the table-top or upper drive and is separate from E02, which is the relay board temperature.

Affected models and control systems

Electric and gas CTP and CTC ovens from 6-10 to 20-20, as reported by the table-top or upper VFD.

Code numbers and their meaning can change between control generations. We match the full model and control before acting on a code.

  4. Clean the drive's heat sink and read the LED blink code.
  5. Replace the fan, switch or VFD only after the test shows which one failed.
! Leave this to a technician
  • The drive and cooling fans are inside the live control area.
  • Cleaning heat sinks means working near capacitors that hold charge.
  • Overheating shortens drive life.

How error code E212 differs from similar codes

E02 and E108 report relay board temperature; E212 reports the fan drive itself overheating.
