Alto-Shaam Combi Oven Error Code E213: Motor Over Current
E213 Motor Over Current means the table-top or upper fan drive reports an over-current condition. Press the Start icon to acknowledge it, and ask a technician to test the fan wheel, motor and drive.
High: the fan motor is drawing too much current and the drive stops it.

What does Alto-Shaam error code E213 mean?
The convection fan motor draws current in proportion to its load. The VFD measures that current and trips if the motor pulls more than it should. When that happens, the control posts E213 Motor Over Current. The manual lists three causes: a blocked fan wheel, a VFD malfunction, or a convection motor malfunction. A wheel that is blocked or dragging forces the motor to work harder, while a failing motor winding can pull extra current with no load change. The drive's LED blink code also applies. Pressing Start acknowledges the message and the oven then tries to return to normal operation, but the drive repeats the check the next time the fan starts. E213 names the motor condition; E214 names a brief current peak and E216 reports over-current again with the same three causes, so a technician uses the LED blink code to tell the situations apart.
Affected models and control systems
The CT PROformance and CT Classic family, six sizes, electric and gas, where the table-top or upper VFD reports motor current.
Code numbers and their meaning can change between control generations. We match the full model and control before acting on a code.
What you may notice
- E213 Motor Over Current on the display
- Fan stopping soon after it starts
- Humming or grinding from the fan area
Possible causes
Listed in Alto-Shaam's documentation
- Blocked fan wheel
- VFD malfunction
- Convection motor malfunction
Other likely causes — what usually sits behind error code E213 on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.
- Baked-on grease on the wheel adding weight and drag
- A worn motor bearing increasing the load
Safe checks before calling for service
- Press the Start icon once to acknowledge E213.
- Let the oven cool and check that nothing loose sits near the back of the cavity.
- Do not run the oven repeatedly if the fan sounds rough.
- If E213 returns, tell the technician what sounds the fan made.
How a technician diagnoses error code E213
- Read the code and the drive LED blink code.
- Turn the wheel by hand with power off to look for drag.
- Measure the motor winding resistance and insulation.
- Measure the drive output current under load.
- Replace the motor or VFD according to the result.
- Motor and drive tests are made on live 208-240 V circuits.
- Drag in the wheel is judged only by hand with the cavity cold.
- Running an overloaded motor can burn the windings.
How error code E213 differs from similar codes
E214 reports a current peak and E216 reports over-current; all three share the same three causes and are told apart by the VFD LED.

Is E213 the same as E216?
They share causes, but are separate messages from the drive.
Could grease be the cause?
A blocked wheel is a listed cause, and baked-on grease can add drag.
Is the motor ruined?
Not necessarily; it depends on the test results.
