What does Alto-Shaam error code E214 mean?
A current peak is a short spike in the current that the drive sees, rather than a steady high load. The VFD watches for these, and when one crosses its limit the control posts E214 VFD Current Peak. The manual lists three causes: a blocked fan wheel, a VFD malfunction, or a convection motor malfunction. A sudden jam, such as an object hitting the wheel, can produce a spike. A shorted motor winding or a failing drive output can too. The drive's LED blink code also applies. Pressing Start acknowledges the message and the oven then tries to return to normal operation, but a spike that happens at the start of the fan will repeat at the next start. A quick check of the cavity for anything that could catch the wheel is a good first step. The related E213 and E216 messages describe over-current with the same causes.
Affected models and control systems
All CTP and CTC sizes, 6-10 to 20-20, electric or gas. A current peak is reported by the table-top or upper drive.
Code numbers and their meaning can change between control generations. We match the full model and control before acting on a code.

- A current spike points at live motor and drive circuits.
- Winding insulation testing needs a megohmmeter.
- An object caught in the wheel can bend it.
How error code E214 differs from similar codes
E213 reports sustained over-current and E214 reports a current peak, but both share the same three causes.
