Alto-Shaam Combi Oven Error Code E218: VFD Voltage Error
E218 VFD Voltage Error means the table-top or upper fan drive reports a supply voltage that does not match its jumper setting. Press the Start icon to acknowledge it, and have a technician check the drive jumper and the supply.
High: the drive's voltage does not match its setting, so the fan may not run.

What does Alto-Shaam error code E218 mean?
The VFD has a jumper that is set for the supply voltage the oven runs on, so the drive can scale its output properly. The drive measures the supply and compares it with that setting. If the two do not agree, the control posts E218 VFD Voltage Error. The manual lists three causes: the voltage jumper is in the wrong position, the VFD has failed, or the VFD power source is incorrect. The first and last are installation or service matters. A wrong jumper is often a result of a board or drive replacement, and a wrong power source can come from a oven wired to a different voltage than the one it was set up for. Pressing Start acknowledges the message and the oven then tries to return to normal operation, but the mismatch persists until it is corrected. E218 names the table-top or upper drive.
Affected models and control systems
CTP and CTC ovens, sizes 6-10 to 20-20, electric and gas, with E218 for the table-top or upper drive and E228 for the lower drive.
Code numbers and their meaning can change between control generations. We match the full model and control before acting on a code.
What you may notice
- E218 VFD Voltage Error on the display
- Message appearing on first start after an installation or service
- Fan not running
Possible causes
Listed in Alto-Shaam's documentation
- VFD voltage jumper in wrong position
- Possible VFD malfunction
- VFD power source incorrect
Other likely causes — what usually sits behind error code E218 on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.
- A replacement drive installed with its jumper left at the factory position
- Supply wiring changed to a different voltage during relocation or rewiring
Safe checks before calling for service
- Press the Start icon once to acknowledge E218.
- Check the oven's rating plate for its supply voltage.
- Note whether the oven was installed, moved or serviced just before the message appeared.
- Tell the technician the voltage the building supplies.
How a technician diagnoses error code E218
- Read the code and ask about recent work on the oven.
- Compare the rating plate voltage with the measured supply voltage.
- Check the position of the VFD voltage jumper.
- Read the drive LED blink code.
- Correct the jumper or supply, and replace the VFD only if the setting is right and the error persists.
- Measuring supply voltage is done on live lines.
- Moving a jumper means opening the drive compartment.
- A wrong voltage setting can damage the motor.
How error code E218 differs from similar codes
E210 and E211 report voltage too low or high during operation; E218 reports a mismatch with the drive's jumper setting.

Did I set the wrong voltage?
The oven's installer or service technician sets the jumper, not the operator.
Is E218 the same as E210?
No. E210 is low voltage measured by the drive.
Could the building supply be wrong?
Yes, a VFD power source that is incorrect is a listed cause.
