Merrychef High-Speed Oven Error Code E090: Recommission Convection Fan
E090 is a recommission test result: the user pressed X to say the convection fan is not working. The manual says to check the convection fan and its speed controller.
Medium: a test report on the fan that keeps cavity heat even and under control.

- All Merrychef eikon speed ovens (e2s, e3, e4, e4s, e5, e6)
What does Merrychef error code E090 mean?
During the recommission test the oven runs each major part in turn and asks the person at the oven to confirm it. Pressing X on the convection fan step records E090: Recommission Fail Convection Fan. The convection fan moves hot air around the cavity, and the oven needs it to bake evenly and to keep the cavity temperature stable. The fan runs through a speed controller, so the manual names both the fan and that controller as the parts to examine. As with the other recommission codes, E090 is what a person reported, not a reading taken by the oven. The manual lists no causes of its own, so the technician proves whether the fan really fails to turn or whether the test was misjudged. A stalled convection fan also appears elsewhere, because E106 CAVITY OVERHEATED names a stalled convection fan as one of its causes.
Affected models and control systems
Merrychef eikon e2s with the QTS touch screen and SRB relay board controller. Confirmed in the e2s service manual's recommission test list.
Code numbers and their meaning can change between control generations. We match the full model and control before acting on a code.
What you may notice
- E090 recommission fail for the convection fan
- No air movement in the cavity during the fan step
- Food that bakes unevenly if the fan is stalling
Possible causes
Likely causes — what usually sits behind error code E090 on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.
- Convection fan motor seized or running below speed
- Fan speed controller not driving the motor
- Fan blade jammed by debris or food residue in the cavity
- A loose fan connector after recent service work
Safe checks before calling for service
- Repeat the recommission step and listen for the convection fan.
- With the oven cool, look inside for loose food debris near the fan opening and remove it carefully.
- Note any grinding, rattling or humming sounds.
- Tell us whether the oven also showed E106 CAVITY OVERHEATED.
How a technician diagnoses error code E090
- Confirm in the log that the convection fan step was rejected.
- Run the convection fan from the service test and watch its speed and rotation.
- Check the speed controller output and the supply to the fan with a meter.
- Inspect the fan shaft and blade for binding.
- Replace the fan or the controller only after the measured result.
- The convection fan and its speed controller run on mains-level power inside the cabinet.
- Shaft binding and controller output can only be judged with the oven opened and tested by a technician.
How error code E090 differs from similar codes
E090 covers the convection fan; E089 is the matching recommission result for the cooling fan, which protects the boards.

Is E090 the same as E089?
No. E089 reports the cooling fan and E090 reports the convection fan inside the cavity.
Can the oven cook with a stalled convection fan?
It may heat, but the manual links a stalled convection fan to E106 CAVITY OVERHEATED, so it should be repaired first.
Could a wrong key press cause E090?
Yes, because it records what the person pressed. Repeating the step and watching the fan settles it.
