Champion Dishwasher Rinse Display Lo: Booster Under 100F

Lo on the rinse display of a Champion UH-series dishwasher means the rinse, or booster, temperature is below 100F. Let the booster heat. If it stays low, the booster heater needs service.

Medium · inspection needed

Medium: the machine runs, but the rinse is not hot enough until the booster heats.

What does Champion error code Lo mean?

The rinse display shows the booster temperature, which is the water used for the final hot rinse. When the booster is under 100F, the display shows Lo. The booster heats water separately from the wash tank, so a machine can show a normal wash temperature while the rinse side still reads Lo. After a fill or a long idle period, the booster needs time to climb into the working range. The manual says to let the booster heat and to service the heater if it stays low. That points to two scenarios: a simple warm-up delay, or a heater that is not adding heat. The final rinse is what sanitizes the dishes at the end of each cycle, so a booster that never leaves Lo means the cycle does not finish properly even though dishes look clean. A technician checks supply, heater, contactor and thermistor in that order.

Affected models and control systems

UH130, UH130B, UH230, UH230B and UH330B M4 series dishwashers with the digital temperature display board; see the Digital Temperature Display Codes, printed pp. 54-57.

Code numbers and their meaning can change between control generations. We match the full model and control before acting on a code.

What you may notice

  • Lo on the rinse side of the display
  • Final rinse water not hot to the touch
  • Dishes that do not dry quickly or look cloudy
  • Wash display normal while rinse stays low

Possible causes

Likely causes — what usually sits behind error code Lo on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.

  • Booster not yet heated after a fill or idle period
  • Rinse temperature under 100F
  • A booster heater breaker that is off or tripped
  • A booster heating element that is open
  • A booster contactor that does not pull in
  • A supply of incoming water colder than the booster can lift in time

Safe checks before calling for service

✓ What an operator can do
  1. Give the booster time to heat and watch whether the rinse display climbs above Lo.
  2. Check that the wall disconnect and breaker supplying the machine and booster are on.
  3. Make sure the machine has finished its fill and nothing is leaking at the booster area.
  4. Avoid running a full load until the rinse reading comes up.
  5. Note how long Lo lasted and whether the wash side was normal at the same time.

How a technician diagnoses error code Lo

  1. Read the rinse display and verify the booster is filled.
  2. Confirm incoming water supply and the booster's electrical supply.
  3. Check the booster contactor for pulling in when heat is called for.
  4. Measure the booster element resistance and current draw.
  5. Check the rinse thermistor and board only after the heater circuit is shown to be good.
! Leave this to a technician
  • The booster heater is a high-amp 208 to 240 V circuit behind the panel.
  • Measuring element current and contactor action needs live testing by trained staff.
  • A booster that stays cold affects sanitizing, so it needs a measured repair rather than a restart.

How error code Lo differs from similar codes

Rinse-side Lo means the booster is cool, while the same Lo on the wash display refers to the wash tank.

LoQuestions about Champion error code Lo
Is Lo on the rinse display urgent?

It matters if it persists, because the final rinse is where sanitizing happens. A short warm-up Lo is normal.

Why is the wash side fine but rinse says Lo?

The wash tank and booster heat separately, so one can be warm while the other is still heating or has a failed heater.

Is Lo the same as an E?

No. Lo is a valid low reading. E means the rinse thermistor or its wiring cannot be read.
