Champion Dishwasher Rinse Display E: Rinse Thermistor Error
E on the rinse display of a Champion UH-series dishwasher means the board cannot read the rinse thermistor. The thermistor may be defective, the wire may be open or broken, or a connection may be loose. Check the wiring and connection, and replace the rinse thermistor if it is defective.
Medium: the rinse temperature cannot be confirmed while the thermistor signal is missing.

What does Champion error code E mean?
The rinse thermistor tells the display board how hot the final rinse water is. The board reads its resistance and converts it to a temperature. When that signal is gone, either because the thermistor is defective, the wire between the thermistor and the board is open or broken, or a connection is loose, the board has nothing to display and prints E. This is not a high or low temperature. It is the absence of a reading. Without it, the board cannot confirm the final rinse has reached its proper temperature, so the end of the cycle cannot be trusted. The manual calls for checking the wiring and connection and replacing the rinse thermistor if it is defective. Because the thermistor circuit is low voltage, the tests are quick for a technician, but reaching the connection means opening panels.
Affected models and control systems
UH130, UH130B, UH230, UH230B and UH330B M4 series dishwashers with the digital temperature display board; see the Digital Temperature Display Codes, printed pp. 54-57.
Code numbers and their meaning can change between control generations. We match the full model and control before acting on a code.
What you may notice
- E on the rinse side of the display
- Rinse temperature never showing a number
- Display that flickers between E and a value
- Final rinse that feels cooler than expected
Possible causes
Likely causes — what usually sits behind error code E on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.
- Defective rinse thermistor
- Open or broken wire between the thermistor and the board
- Loose connection
- A thermistor lead rubbed through near the booster area
- Corrosion at the rinse thermistor plug from steam and moisture
- A connector at the display board that has loosened
Safe checks before calling for service
- Turn the machine off and on once to see whether E clears, and note if it flickers.
- Do not rely on the rinse temperature while E shows; avoid running full loads.
- Check that the wash display still reads normally.
- Write down whether E is steady or intermittent for the technician.
How a technician diagnoses error code E
- Confirm E is on the rinse display only and not on the wash display.
- With power off, inspect the rinse thermistor lead and connector.
- Measure thermistor resistance and compare it with the rinse water temperature.
- Test continuity of the harness between thermistor and display board.
- Replace the thermistor or harness only when the measurement shows the problem.
- The harness runs through areas close to live 208 to 240 V booster wiring.
- A resistance and continuity test needs a meter and the correct thermistor values.
- Telling a failed thermistor from a loose plug cannot be done by looking at the display.
How error code E differs from similar codes
E on the rinse display points to the rinse thermistor, and the same E on the wash display points to the wash thermistor.

Related Champion dish machine error codes
Does E mean the rinse is too hot or cold?
Neither. The board simply has no valid rinse temperature reading.
Could a loose plug cause E?
Yes, the manual lists a loose connection along with a defective thermistor and a broken wire.
Can the dishwasher still be used?
The final rinse temperature is not verified while E shows, so it is better to have it checked before relying on it.
