Champion Dishwasher Booster Display H: Overtemp Lockout

H on the booster display, with 150 on the wash display, means a booster overtemperature lockout: the booster is above 210F. The booster is locked out for 10 minutes before it is energized again. Wait 10 minutes and call service if it repeats.

Medium · inspection needed

High: the booster went above 210F and the machine locks it out; repeated lockouts point to a heat control problem.

What does Champion error code H mean?

This indication is a protective lockout on the booster. When the booster temperature goes above 210F, the control shuts the booster heater off and holds it off for 10 minutes before energizing it again. The display shows H on the booster side while the wash display reads 150. The 10-minute wait is a cooling period, not a reset step: the booster is simply kept off until it falls back. If the booster comes back into range, the machine resumes. If the lockout repeats, something keeps pushing the booster past 210F, such as a stuck contactor, a thermistor that under-reads, or a control that does not turn the heater off. The manual's instructions are brief: wait the 10 minutes and call service if the lockout repeats. Treat repeated lockouts as a heater control problem.

Affected models and control systems

UH130, UH130B, UH230, UH230B and UH330B M4 series dishwashers with the digital temperature display board; see the Digital Temperature Display Codes, printed pp. 54-57.

Code numbers and their meaning can change between control generations. We match the full model and control before acting on a code.

What you may notice

  • H on the booster display with 150 on the wash display
  • Hot final rinse that stops while the lockout runs
  • Machine that resumes after waiting about 10 minutes
  • Repeated lockouts in the same shift

Possible causes

Likely causes — what usually sits behind error code H on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.

  • Booster temperature above 210F
  • Booster locked out for 10 minutes before it is energized again
  • A booster contactor that sticks closed and keeps heating
  • A rinse thermistor that reads lower than the real water temperature
  • Scale on the booster element that causes hot spots and uneven heat sensing

Safe checks before calling for service

✓ What an operator can do
  1. Wait the full 10 minutes without cycling power, as the manual says.
  2. Keep hands clear of the booster area and the rinse arms until the machine cools.
  3. Run the machine again and see whether H returns.
  4. If it comes back, note how often and at what point in the shift.

How a technician diagnoses error code H

  1. Record how often the lockout occurs and the temperature the machine reaches.
  2. Verify the actual rinse temperature with a thermometer.
  3. Check booster contactor contacts and the heater control signal.
  4. Inspect the booster thermistor and compare it with the real water temperature.
  5. Check for scale on the element, and replace the failed part only after testing.
! Leave this to a technician
  • The booster heater and contactor carry 208 to 240 V and are checked behind the panel.
  • Overheating can scald and damages the booster if the control does not shut the heat off.
  • Finding whether the sensor or the contactor causes repeated lockouts needs a meter and thermometer together.

How error code H differs from similar codes

Unlike H HH on the rinse display, which is a reading above 200F, this H with 150 on the wash display is a lockout above 210F that runs a 10-minute wait.

HQuestions about Champion error code H
How long does the lockout last?

The manual says the booster is locked out for 10 minutes before it is energized again.

Should I power the machine off and on to skip the wait?

No. Wait the 10 minutes. A repeated lockout should be reported to a technician instead.

Is this the same as H HH on the rinse display?

No. H HH is a reading over 200F. This is an overtemperature lockout above 210F with 150 shown on the wash side.
