Hussmann Cases and Controllers
Grocery and convenience stores use Hussmann cases for chilled and frozen food. We work on Chino Entyce TY3 and TY4 island cases in remote and self-contained versions, Impact medium- and low-temperature merchandisers, and older families such as SHM, DDSS-4MC, SMG8B, RFLN, HGM-1BS, RDI-27, Q3SSM-R, Isla and Chino RCD. Entyce cases use a Danfoss AK-CC 210 or Dixell XR75CX controller, and the CoreLink electronic case controller ties into a store system.
Hussmann rates Impact and Entyce cases for a store at 75 degrees F and 55 percent relative humidity, with some at 80 degrees F. A store with a struggling air conditioner or a propped-open back door goes past that quickly, most often in Miami and Houston, and the case then shows warm product and heavy frost.
What We Check and What You Can Do
Airflow comes first, because a loaded shelf or a blocked discharge honeycomb is a common reason a case is warm. Next come the condenser, the evaporator fans, the defrost cycle and drain line, and the controller probes and parameters. On self-contained cases we inspect the condensate pan for overflow.
The maker advises cleaning the honeycomb, condenser and condensate pan at least twice a year and changing the filter every six months. It also says never to spray a self-contained case with a water hose. We work on older Hussmann cases too, and tell you straight when a repair no longer pays. The price is in writing before work, with a 30-day workmanship warranty.

Store ambient is a common cause. Hussmann cases are rated for about 75 degrees F and 55 percent humidity, so a warm or humid store, a dirty condenser or a blocked airflow path can show up as afternoon problems.
Can I wash a self-contained Hussmann case with a hose?
No. The maker says not to use a water hose on self-contained cases. Wipe them down, keep the honeycomb and condenser clean, and call us if water gets into the electrical area.
