Polar King Walk-In Cooler and Freezer Repair
We repair Polar King outdoor walk-in coolers and freezers in Miami, Los Angeles, Houston, New York and San Diego, including the one-piece fiberglass boxes and the condensing units on top. Older boxes built before 2009 are welcome too.
Common Polar King problems we fix
In plain words, the way kitchen and laundry staff describe them when they call.
Box is warm inside
Defrost never starts or ends
Thermostat seems set wrong
Dial thermometer reads wrong
Breaker trips on the condensing unit
Fan on the coil has stopped
One-Piece Fiberglass Boxes
Polar King walk-ins are fiberglass boxes molded in one piece, with no panel joints. They are built to sit outdoors, with the condensing unit and the electrical control panel on top of the box, so the whole system takes sun, rain and humidity every day. We service the FJAF and FJAM coolers and freezers, the DJAL boxes and the older units built before January 1, 2009.
Working on the Roof of the Box
Most warm-box calls start on the roof. We clean the condenser, check the evaporator coil and its fan, and look at the drain line. Defrost runs from a timer clock in the control panel, and loose pins on that clock explain a coil that never defrosts. On boxes with an electronic thermostat, the OFF setting has to be lower than the ON setting and a snowflake should show on the display. A wrongly set thermostat is more common than a bad one.
A dial thermometer that reads wrong can be reset by moving its pointer. If a breaker trips, do not use it as an on and off switch, because the system should be pumped down first. Low or high voltage at the compressor shortens its life, so we measure it.
Older Boxes
Polar King boxes built before 2009 use a different condensing unit naming and are still in service. We repair them and say plainly when a repair no longer pays. The price is written down before work begins, and the work has a 30-day workmanship warranty.
Polar King codes and alarms
What the display or the blinking light means, what is safe to check, and when to stop and call us.
Polar King lines and model numbers we service
Current and older lines. Find the number on the data plate and open its series for the usual repairs.
Can I set my Polar King cooler below freezing?
No. A cooler should not be set below 32 degrees, because it can ice up the coil and lose cooling. If you need colder, you need a freezer box.
Is it fine to use the breaker to turn my walk-in off?
No. Switching off at the breaker without a pump-down can harm the compressor. Use the proper off switch, and call us if the breaker keeps tripping.
Where is the cooling equipment on my Polar King?
The condensing unit and control panel are on top of the box. Keep the area around them clear, and call us for any work inside the panel.
