Univex grinding is done by PTO-driven grinder heads that bolt onto the hub of an SRM mixer. The ALMF12 and ALMFC12 are examples we see. Because the head borrows its power from the mixer, a grinder problem can sit in the head, in the hub, or in the mixer drive, and we test all three.
Smeared meat is usually a dull knife or a worn plate. We replace the knife and plate and check the head for scoring. When the hub drive slips, the grinder will not feed, and we inspect the hub and the attachment fit. An overload trip with a grinder attached makes us look at the product temperature and the amount being pushed through.
Leaks around the head point to a worn seal, and a head that has been washed down every day for years may need more than a seal.
