What does Alto-Shaam error code E44 mean?
N8 is one of the temperature probes the control reads on these ovens, and the CT Express manual describes N8 as a boiler safety probe. When the control reads the N8 circuit as a short to ground, it posts E44 N8 Fault. The manual says nothing more about the probe's position on the CT PROformance and CT Classic ovens. It gives a single cause: the probe is miswired or has malfunctioned. A short means two things that should be separate are touching, either inside the probe or along its lead, and the temperature cannot be read at all. Pressing Start acknowledges the message and the oven then tries to return to normal operation, but the short does not go away by itself, so the safety or monitoring job of N8 stays unavailable. Other short-to-ground codes in this series, E40 to E43, name different probes, so the number tells the technician which circuit to test.

Possible causes
Listed in Alto-Shaam's documentation
- Probe N8 miswired or failed

- Insulation damage on the N8 lead where it passes over a hot edge
- A connector with moisture bridging its terminals to the frame
Safe checks before calling for service
- Press the Start icon once to acknowledge E44.
- Let the oven cool, and do not use steam programs until it is checked.
- Note whether any other probe code, such as E43, appeared together with E44.
- Tell the technician what program was running when it appeared.
How a technician diagnoses error code E44
- Read the code and check history for other probe codes.
- Locate N8 from the wiring diagram and inspect its lead and connector.
- Disconnect N8 and measure resistance from each lead to ground.
- Compare the probe's resistance with its chart.
- Replace N8 or repair the lead based on where the short is.
- The N8 circuit connects to the control board and is tested with the oven powered down and then up.
- Identifying where N8 sits requires the oven's own wiring diagram.
- A safety probe should not be bypassed or guessed at.
How error code E44 differs from similar codes
E43 names N6 shorted to ground and E45 names B10.
