What does Alto-Shaam error code E49 mean?

Point 4 is the last sensing point the manual lists for the multipoint core probe B10. When the control finds that line shorted to ground it posts E49 B10 - Point 4 Fault. The manual states one cause, a probe that is miswired or has malfunctioned. This number belongs to a set of short-to-ground messages that run from E45 for the whole probe through E46, E47, E48 and E49 for the individual points, so a technician can see from the code which line to measure first. It is distinct from E29, where point 4 is open or defective. Pressing Start acknowledges the message and the oven then tries to return to normal operation, but the control repeats its probe check whenever a core-temperature program starts. A probe that grounds one line usually grounds more as it ages, so seeing E49 together with others suggests the cable or plug, not a single sensor.

Affected models and control systems

Code numbers and their meaning can change between control generations. We match the full model and control before acting on a code.

  • Probe B10 miswired or failed

Other likely causes — what usually sits behind error code E49 on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.

  • Probe tip split open after being forced into dense or frozen product
  • Condensation and grease in the plug creating a leakage path on the fourth contact

Safe checks before calling for service

✓ What an operator can do
  1. Press the Start icon once to acknowledge E49.
  2. Dry the probe plug and look for damage on the tip and cable.
  3. Reseat the probe fully and try again.
  4. If E49 returns, list any other probe codes and use time-based cooking.

How a technician diagnoses error code E49

  1. Read the code and check for E45 to E48 in the history.
  2. Inspect the probe from tip to plug.
  3. Disconnect the probe and measure line 4 to ground.
  4. Check the oven's receptacle wiring for grounding.
  5. Replace B10 if the probe is the source.
! Leave this to a technician
  • Meter tests need the probe disconnected and the oven in a safe state.
  • The receptacle wiring ends at the live board.
  • Core-temperature accuracy matters for food safety.

How error code E49 differs from similar codes

E29 is point 4 open or defective; E49 is the shorted version, and E45 covers the whole probe.
