Cissell OPL Dryer Error Code E SL2: Stove Limit 2 Tripped
E SL2 tells you the second stove limit has opened, a separate heat safety that protects the same hot area as the first. Heating shuts off, usually because of restricted exhaust or lint buildup. Let the dryer cool fully, clean the lint screen, check the vent opening outdoors, then try one more cycle.
High: a heat safety has cut the heating, and a repeat trip means the cause is still present.
What does Cissell error code E SL2 mean?
A Cissell OPL dryer such as the CU030E carries two stove limits, so the control can tell which one has opened. The second one, shown as E SL2, protects the same area around the heating but trips independently of the first. It is a thermostat that opens its circuit when the temperature at its position rises past its set point. When the control sees the circuit open, it cuts the heat and ends the cycle. A second limit tripping, with no E SL, is worth noting because it can mean the heat is concentrated at a particular spot, for example at one side of the burner or where lint has built up on that thermostat. The causes the manual points to are restricted exhaust, lint around the thermostat, the limit device and its wiring, and a heater or burner that runs hotter than normal. If airflow is good, the device and wiring are tested.
Affected models and control systems
This page covers the Cissell OPL electronic control tumble dryers, 25 to 35 lb C-prefix models such as the CU030E.
Code numbers and their meaning can change between control generations. We match the full model and control before acting on a code.
What you may notice
- E SL2 appears and the heat shuts off
- Dryer stops mid-cycle with damp clothes
- Cabinet feels hot at the top or around the burner area
Possible causes
Listed in Cissell's documentation
- Exhaust venting that holds heat in the cabinet
- Lint around the thermostat
- A failed second stove limit device or damaged wiring
- A heater or burner that runs hotter than normal
Other likely causes — what usually sits behind error code E SL2 on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.
- A heating element or burner that stays on too long because a temperature sensor reads low
- A limit connector that has loosened or discolored from heat, so the circuit opens as the cabinet warms
- Lint that settled on one side of the stove area where the airflow is weakest
Safe checks before calling for service
- Turn the dryer off and give it plenty of time to cool.
- Clean the lint screen and the area around the lint door.
- Look at the vent opening outdoors for blockage.
- Try one more cycle after power is back on, and call us if E SL2 shows again. Tell us if E SL has also appeared.
How a technician diagnoses error code E SL2
- Read the code and note whether E SL has appeared on this dryer.
- Check exhaust airflow and the duct run.
- Inspect the stove area, limit and wiring for lint, heat marks and loose connections.
- Measure the limit's opening temperature and the heater or burner operation.
- Replace the limit or wiring only after the airflow and heat source have been cleared.
- Heat safety devices must never be bypassed, and testing them correctly needs a meter.
- The limit and its wiring sit in the hot area inside the cabinet.
- A heater that overheats can come from a control problem, which only measurement can show.
How error code E SL2 differs from similar codes
E SL is the first stove limit. E SL2 is the second, and the two trip separately.

Related Cissell dryer error codes
Why does the dryer have two stove limits?
They are two layers of protection for the same hot area, so one can trip without the other.
Can I restart after E SL2?
Once it has cooled and the lint is cleaned, one try is reasonable. If it returns, stop.
Is a long vent run a cause?
Yes. A restricted duct holds heat in the cabinet and can trip the limit.
