Cissell OPL Dryer Error Code EoP: Open Thermistor

EoP means the temperature sensor circuit reads as open, usually a broken wire, a loose plug or a sensor that has stopped passing current. The control cannot tell how hot the drum is, so it ends the cycle and the clothes come out damp. Let the dryer cool, clean the lint screen, then try one more cycle.

Medium · inspection needed

Medium: the cycle ends early and the dryer will not dry until the sensor circuit is repaired.

What does Cissell error code EoP mean?

The thermistor on a Cissell OPL dryer, such as the CT025L, CT030N or CU030E, is a small sensor whose resistance changes with temperature. The control reads that resistance dozens of times per minute to hold the drum at the right heat. An open reading means the resistance has gone off the scale, as if the wire had been cut. It cannot be a real temperature, so the control assumes the sensor circuit is broken and stops the cycle with EoP. Heating with no temperature reading could lead to overheating, so stopping is the safe response. The clothes come out damp because the cycle ended early. The manual points to the thermistor and its plug, wire breaks or rubbed insulation along the lead, lint buildup around the sensor and the control board input. Plugs and wires that flex or sit in lint are the usual weak points.

Affected models and control systems

This page covers the Cissell OPL electronic control tumble dryers, 25 to 35 lb C-prefix models, including the CT025L, CT030N and CU030E.

Code numbers and their meaning can change between control generations. We match the full model and control before acting on a code.

What you may notice

  • EoP appears and the cycle ends early
  • Clothes are damp or cold at the end
  • The dryer stops again on the next cycle

Possible causes

Listed in Cissell's documentation

  • A failed thermistor or loose plug at its connection
  • A wire break or rubbed insulation along the sensor lead
  • Lint buildup around the sensor
  • A failed control board input for the sensor

Other likely causes — what usually sits behind error code EoP on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.

  • A plug that has slipped half out of its socket after the exhaust fan vibrated for months
  • A lead that was pinched when a panel was refitted after cleaning
  • Lint packed so tightly around the thermistor that it has bent the sensor leg

Safe checks before calling for service

✓ What an operator can do
  1. Turn the dryer off at the disconnect and wait for the drum to cool.
  2. Clean the lint screen and wipe lint away from the lint door area.
  3. Do not pull at wiring or open the cabinet.
  4. Turn power back on and try one more cycle, then call us if EoP appears again.

How a technician diagnoses error code EoP

  1. Read the code and confirm that it comes up at start or after the drum warms.
  2. Inspect the thermistor, its plug and its lead for damage and lint.
  3. Measure the thermistor resistance cold and compare it with the chart.
  4. Check the control input with a known resistor.
  5. Replace the thermistor, harness or control only after the readings show which one has failed.
! Leave this to a technician
  • The thermistor and its lead sit in the hot area of the cabinet, behind panels.
  • A resistance test needs the sensor out of the circuit and a meter.
  • Running with a broken sensor risks wrong heating, which is why the control correctly stops.

How error code EoP differs from similar codes

ESH is the matching code for a shorted thermistor. EoP is the open reading.

EoPQuestions about Cissell error code EoP
Can I keep using the dryer with EoP?

No. The control ends the cycle because it cannot read the drum temperature.

Is EoP the same as ESH?

No. EoP is an open circuit and ESH is a short. Both mean the sensor circuit is wrong.

Will cleaning lint fix EoP?

Sometimes, if lint is holding the sensor away from its connection. Often a wire or plug is the cause.
